Elbow - the Seldom Seen Kid

It's definetly time that the "hype-bandwagon" jumps over from Arcade Fire to Elbow, at least for a couple of months. The new record 'the Seldom Seen Kid' is absolutely awesome, not that the prevous three albums weren't fabulous as well but I feel that this one is special. Especially like the following tracks: 'The Bones of You', 'Grounds for Divorce', 'The Fix' & 'Starlings'.

Anyone out there having some love for this band?

Abolutely no one having any sympathy for Manchester's Finest?? That's really disappointing ...
  • Here you go, I'll grace your thread as well. The strings on 'Friends Of Ours' are totally mind-bogglingly gorgeous.

looks like I started the thread way too early. the album just leaked on the net & 2 days later I was so into it I just couldn't hold back. I just had to start a thread. Looks like the PJ Community wasn't ready for it at the time ... I'm really happy Elbow is gettin' some love in the PJ Message Pit after all. They deserve it!

  • only up to 'an audience with the pope' now, but so far it's brilliant. I love it. I'm bad in describing my feelings towards songs, but I can tell that I love it so far :D
I'll so sleep to elbow tonight.

I'm sorry but how beautiful IS this album? I've had it on repeat for two days straight.

Somehow the hype bandwagon has to be sustained. I can go on about how wonderful this record is forever!!!

My ONLY criticism of the album - and I really don't have any more - is the bonus track on the end; it's not needed. It should end at 'Friends of Ours'.

.....unless y'all feel like sharing (and by sharing I mean PM me a copy :))

I can honestly say the debut album by Elbow (forgotten the name) is one if not the worst album i've ever brought. Everything else i've heard from this band is also pretty dire including the latest single 'Divorce'. They are just so turgid.

Sorry for putting a negative spin on your thread :P

FANTASTIC album....thanks for the recommendation. I'm on my 4th time through and it grows on me more and more with each listen.

very beautiful, lush, intricate, laid back......at times epic and at others very understated.....lyrics are great

standouts so far for me have been Mirrorball, Grounds For Divorce, Audience With The Pope, One Day Like This and Friend of Ours

....out of curiosity are you guys (esp. Phatucini and Harmless) fans of the band Doves - if not you should DEFINITELY check them out

I've heard of them a lot, and especially in the context of Elbow (of whom I am a new fan), but yeah I'll check em out. :)

Already a fan of Doves, another Mancunian beauty! Love every of their 3 records! Shouldn't they release something soon?

agreed - Doves are an INCREDIBLE band (one of the best live bands I have ever seen)

Lost Souls and The Last Broadcast are my 2 favorite albums (although Some Cities is no slouch either)

some tracks I would recommend (Harmless), if you are looking for a place to start......

    Lost Souls:
    Here It Comes
    Rise *
    Catch the Sun *
    A House
    Valley

    The Last Broadcast:
    Words
    There Goes the Fear *
    Satellites
    Pounding *
    Caught By the River

    Some Cities:
    Some Cities
    Black and White Town
    Almost Forgot Myself
    Snowden *

    (* - my favs)

their new album was supposed to be released in 2007.....but was delayed until sometime this year (one of the guys became a new father last year and they decided to take some time off)......last I heard (mid-February) they were in the process recording the new album

PS: sorry - didnt mean to hijack your thread

Ok with Doves but let's move back to the great Album that is 'the Seldom Seen Kid' I lately grew more and more fond of 'The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver' & 'One Day Like This'. I was more into the beginning of the album but now it's getting slowly ahold of me as a whole.

Yep. It's a lovely slow-burner of an album. I'm still crazy about 'Friend of Ours'. The 'Love ya mate' part.... wow.

Still havin' the record on heavy rotation, I just can't let go of it! It has grown to 'Album of the Year" status for me! The only weakness this record has is indeed the bonus track 'We're Away' but that's just on the UK version I think, at least it's not on the European Version that's for sure. :D

Yep, I agree, the only weakness is 'We're Away'. It's unnecessary. Other than that it's a perfect album and far and away my album of the year :)
