  • As my name suggests, I love them dearly.

The only scheduled dates right now are Dec. 30th in San Francisco and Dec. 31st in Los Angeles. Gnarls Barkley is opening and those shows, especially the New Year' Eve show, should be outta this world.

I'm assuming you've checked out all their stuff?

I consider myself a fan, although I don't even have At War With The Mystics and a bunch of the earlier stuff. I do have Soft Bulletin (my favorite), Yoshimi (close second), Clouds Taste Metallic, and Hear It Is.

The Lips are great. I've got most of their stuff, including the surround dvds they have for Yoshimi, Soft Bulletin, and Mystics. Rumor is that they will continue to tour in 2007, but no dates have been announced yet.

There's an excellent video from a recent show up on youtube with all the lasers (they were handing out laser pointers to the audience), but I cant search it out right now, the search on youtube is down.

I've heard a mixed down version in 5.1, not the full eight speaker one though. It's pretty wild, there are some good tracks on it. Listening to the individual discs won't make a lot of sense, but it would be worth it if you can get a few cd players together.

You can get a stereo version of Zaireeka (plus lots of other cool live stuff) on the Big Ol' Bug FTP server, the details are here:

Ok, and now that the search is working here's the link to the youtube laser video:

And if you haven't seen this yet, it's well worth the 15 minutes. Wayne's commencement speech for Classen High School last year.

Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

I just picked it up yesterday and I am really diggin it.

so now I have: Transmissions from the satellite heart, Clouds taste metallic, Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi, and at War with the Mystics.

What is next for me? I really cant get enough of this band and I have loved everything I have heard so far. Should I get Zaireeka? Does anyone like their really old stuff? Let me know.

Pick up 'The Day They Shot a Hole in the Jesus Egg' next. Its a 2 disc set of the Priest Driven Ambulance album, along with outtakes, b-sides, demos, etc. Excellent disc, and there are some very good songs on there: Shine on Sweet Jesus, Mountain Side, 5 Stop Mother Superior Rain, God Walks Among Us Now, Unconsiously Screamin, and the 2 covers: What a Wonderful World, and Strychnine/Peace, Love & Understanding. This is a lot louder and heavier than later lips though. Closer in sound to Transmissions than anything else you have up there.

I've got also got Hit to Death in the Future Head, but haven't gotten into it nearly as much as the other discs. Zaireeka is worth searching out, but you wont get as much out of it listening to 1 disc at a time.

Want to get a christmas card from the Lips? Sign up on their mailing list here:

    http://hellfireltd.com/

Look for the christmas card link. I've gotten one the last two years. Haven't gotten this years yet, so there may be time to sign up still.
