"Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." Herman Melville : Moby Dick

i bought it for £3 a while back and i think its one of my top 3 Neil albums.

its a beautiful melancholic ride of an album... i adore it.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I bought this when it came out a generation ago. Lost it within a few months. Must buy it again. Dunk, where did you get it for £3?

i seriously need to explore his music - i only have
    on the beach
    harvest moon and
    mirror ball

i really dig all 3, with on the beach being exceptional

music zone... which is now defunct :(

my other 2 favourites would be

    After The Goldrush

    &

    Harvest

both of these are when i believe he was at his creative peak... 70's style... Freedom is a very good album as well actually and it was done much later into the end of the 80's but it has a 70's sound to it.

I agree. I don't listen to Neil's albums that often but when I get one of those moments they sound as fresh as the day they came out.

On the beach is a great album. Ambulance Blues is one of my favorite neil songs and for a guy who has so many incredable songs saying that is saying something :)

If you are looking for an atmosphere closest to on the beach you should check out Tonight's the Night. You can tell neil is fucked up on the album. both mentally as well as literally. He was drunk when he recorded borrowed tune and you can tell the way he sings it.

He hit a pretty hazy patch after Whitten OD'd. Tonight's the Night is an expression of that.

As for other neil albums to consider
    Zuma
    After the Gold Rush
    Harvest
    Ragged Glory
Everybody Knows this is Nowhere (the holy trinity Cowgirl, Down by the River, Cinnamon Girl)
    Sleeps With Angels

Those are some of my favs besides the ones you have & tonights the Night.
    Charlotte 00
    Charlotte 03
    Asheville 04
    Atlanta 12
    Greenville 16, Columbia 16
    Seattle 18
    Nashville 22

MOTION PICTURES is sooooo god damn underrated. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard... the lyrics are so sad and beautiful and just go perfectly with the song. It's one of my all time favorites.

"Motion pictures on my TV screen,
A home away from home, livin' in between
But I hear some people have got their dream.
    I've got mine.

I hear the mountains are doin' fine,
Mornin' glory is on the vine,
And the dew is fallin', the ducks are callin'.
    Yes, I've got mine.

Well, all those people, they think they got it made
But I wouldn't buy, sell, borrow or trade
Anything I have to be like one of them.
I'd rather start all over again.

Well, all those headlines, they just bore me now
I'm deep inside myself, but I'll get out somehow,
And I'll stand before you, and I'll bring a smile to your eyes.
    Motion pictures, motion pictures."
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win
