    Nevermind - Nirvana

Evil Empire - Rage Against the Machine
    Goo - Sonic Youth
All Hands On The Bad One - Sleater-Kinney
  • 1. Green - REM
probably the first album & artist that grabbed me, when i was 10

    2. Ten- Pearl Jam
got me hooked at age 11 in an indescribeable way

    3. Vs - Pearl Jam
came out when i was in 8th grade. No longer just a band, it was a personal revelation. Troubled souls unite!

    4. Vitalogy - Pearl Jam
came out when i was hitting puberty in 9th grade. Songs like "nothing man" and "immoratlity" made me realize this was going to be a lifelong passion. Whipping became an anthem for me.

    5. III - Led Zeppeling
PJ convinced me to start buying vinyl. This was one of my first. The diversity changed my perception of what an album could be.

    6. No Code - Pearl Jam
at 15, and with this and Led Zeppelin's III under my belt, i finaly understood what being a band, and making a "real" album was all about! Music was officialy my ultimate passion. I went rabid.

    7. XXX - Jane's Addiction
This got me thinking even more "alternative" and was a real corner turner for me.

    8. Doolittle - The Pixies
    more of #7 above.

    9. Bryant St. - Dubtribe Soundsystem
"Rave" became a substantial part of my life when i attended my first Dubtribe show at 15. The songs that eventualy ended up on Bryant St. became songs of hope & inspiration to me. It was also a great counterbalance to Pearl Jam

    10. Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground
When i was about 16 i started listening to The VU. It took me to another place. I was getting in to psychedelics at the time as well, and this got a lot of play during that era. Especially when i was "strobing" ... it was one of the few albums that could fight through the aural diseuphoria that came with that experience.

Other albums that soon became influential to me were
    Lifes Rich Pageant - REM
Appetite For Destruction - Guns N Roses
    Help - The Beatles
Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
Portrait Of An American Family - Marilyn Manson
    Nihil - KMFDM
    American Beauty - Grateful Dead
    Yield - Pearl Jam

    yeah yeah. okay okay.
Thats enough albums for right now.

Those top 10 are NOT my favorites, necessarily, although they certainly were the ones that helped shape my musical outlook the most.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

01-Kiss - Dynasty (i was and never will be fond of disco music, just not my thing, but this was the first ever MUSIC TAPE (remember it was '79, i was 6) i got..Kiss was with no doubt my first personal approach to music)
02-The Cure - Boys Don't Cry ('80..i didn't own this, but i remember the songs given airplay at local stations..an uncle of mine usually heard this)
03-The Police - Ghost In The Machine (year '81..my older brother listened to this everyday)
04-Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast (1982)
05-That same year (1982) a friend of mine lends me his older brothers vinyls from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath
    06-Metallica - Master Of Puppets (1989)
07-Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual (1990..accidently got this one..it was the intro to the years to come)
08-1991..My best friend goes on vacations to the U.S..he returns with a whole lot of fresh cds..among them 4 i'll put in a package due to their influence on me...Pearl Jam (Ten)...Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger)...Nirvana (Nevermind) and RHCP (Blood Sugar Sex Magik)
    09-Bjork - Debut (1993..dance approach??..hmm)
10-The Bends - Radiohead (1995..although i owned Pablo Honey, this one turned some things around)

Its a shame its only a "10 most influential" thread (although i cheated and included a couple;as i called them packages to mention more than one band.)
Another turn point is when i listen to Massive Attack in college years and to Morphine just graduating from it...and how the hell could i forget The Pixies!

Tim Buckley - Dream Letter Live in London 1968
This album is absurdly good. His vocal performance on that album destroys me. SO emotional. Tim is officially better than Jeff for me now.

  • Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin II

    Aerosmith: Rocks

    Neil Young: Zuma
Black Sabbath: We Sold Our Souls For Rock And Roll

The Zeppelin, Stones and Aerosmith albums are what defined my love of music. The others are a huge influence on how I write and play.

I rarely to listen to Guns or Metallica anymore, but at the time they came out, they were huge in my life. Arcade Fire and The Shins are most responsible from directing my attention away from mainstream music.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Yes we do. Thriller could have easily been on mine as well. Hendrix's Blues album doesn't get nearly enough mention.
