this band is a fuck load greater than all those pretentious music critics make them out to be. they (the pretentious wankers) just never seem to get it quite right.

seriously, this band is brilliant.

yes they are. Lou Reed is pure genius when he writes.

    Loaded > Nico

    Loaded was a little boring.

Since this thread was about to leave the first page we should play the "facts about the vu" game :
1 - the original lyrics of heroin said "and I know, just where I'm going", Lou reed changed them at the last minute in "and I don't know, just where I'm going" and added the "and I guess that I just don't know" at the end. To the dismay of John Cale (or so they say), because it kind of changes a lot of the meaning of the song.

2 - the original recording of the vu & nico, the one that was sent to the record companies was lost for many years. It was bought for 75 cents in chelsea (ny) in a street sale. the guy who bought it sold it at +115 000 $ on ebay a few years later (I saw the auction myself, it was on stumbleupon then) and expressed the hope of selling it to lou reed. Don't know who the winner was though (damn nicknames).

i have and love their first record w/ Nico but i'm itching to get White Light/White Heat for some reason.
  • Pale Blue Eyes is a song I like to chill to. I got into this band about 5 years ago when I was in Santa Barbara. This vinyl shop I wandered into was playing their ablum w/Nico and I was blown away by it. Within the next few days I bought all of their cd's and have been a fan since. Great music, I think it's a band the mainstream has yet to discover and I wish the masses would consider them one of the best bands from their era.

Vu & Nico is massively influential and generally very enjoyable. Venus in Furs, All Tomorrow's Parties and Heroin are amazing. I'm not big on the stuff they made after Cale left though.

Incidentally, John Cale learned music at my university. How cool is that? :D God knows why the prospectus goes on about the boys from Blur or Damien Hurst being alumni. John Cale helped shape modern music.

  • i want to hear that demo version of nico. i think the deluxe edition cd has them and i think they re-printed it on vinyl with a green banana. lou reed is awesome. and i agree with who ever said loaded>nico loaded is one of the best records ever made.

also phish covered the entire loaded album in order at atleast one show.

Oh what a little organizing will do! I was rearranging my vinyl today and came across my copy of V.U. which had somehow gotten misplaced. Spinning it right now. Pure joy! What an amazing band.

When the day comes that I get bored with original Velvet Underground songs worms will be eating my ear drums so it won't matter anyway.
