man this band are shit hot... I cant stop playing this album... the voice, lyrics, the pounding drums, the guitar tones and melodies...

best thing since Kings of Leon.... and i fucking love KOL!
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i personally wouldn't label them "genious", but their debut album is startling and impressive. i hear they're quite enjoyable live and put on a good show. i definitely hear echoes of early Bowie in there. Just a really good effort they put out. Was easily my album of the year last year.

i wouldnt label them "genious" either... as its spelled wrong ;) j/k

i hear Bowie influences, but mostly i get a Talking Heads vibe...

genius is passed around quite easily these days, but i think for Arcade Fire, it is right in this instance... the album is just sublime... and on stage they seems to be electric

"Funeral" is easily the best debut album since 2002 or 2001, I am forgetful what years stuff is released, but I can't come up with a better(or even as good) debut album since "Is This It?" or "Oh, Inverted World."

Can't wait for another album from them, I have heard it is coming out this year? Not sure if that is a confirmed deal or not, I sure hope so though, "Funeral" is quite amazing.
  • 2006 will be another great year, The Dears and Arcade Fire are supposed to release new albums, The Dears for sure, Arcade Fire will at least record one, they bought an old church where they've built a studio (absolutly serious), awesome. The Dears singer bought a house, and built a studio also, everyone is building their own damn studio :).

Also look out for these upcoming bands:
    Shoot The Moon: http://www.shootthemoon.ca/
    Code Pie: http://www.codepie.com/

and make sure you already have Wolf Parade's album...

  • I think they're good, though the singer sounds like Mister Zed from the Police Academy films.

You know i was pretty high on them at the end of 04 and mid way through 05 i saw them once last JAN and i listen to them often, but i guess not as much recently.

Then last night i saw the Coachella film that had their performance of Rebellion in it and damn i was reminded of not only how awesome they are but how incredible they are live!

I'm so happy i saw them last jan live i can't wait to see them again.

It is a very good album, but let's let them write a couple more before we start calling them genius. Let's see if they will even have any longevity. They have also had the help of a lot of media hype, which may be clouding some judgement. What if their next album sounds exactly like the first? Then they become redundant and everyone will forget about them. I like em, but they still have a lot to prove.

On the flip side, they got the hype because their album was good. Nobody was sitting around drooling over them waiting for them to release "Funeral" like many of the hype bands(Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand for example). People heard "Funeral" and most liked it and word spread. There's a difference in being hyped before you do anything worth getting excited about and being hyped because you have shown the potential to do something wonderful.

I do agree though, we need to hear their next move before calling them genius or a classic band or anything. They've put out one amazing album, but they need to build off of it for sure.
