Fucked up noises on 10 000 Days by TOOL

On The Pot around the start and throughout the song you can hear Maynards voice really lowly below himself singing the song except a few words ahead of himself. Anyone else hear this? Think it's a mistake on TOOLs part?

    nah its not. that record is a very layered album with a lot of stuff going on.
