Help with Radiohead.

I have never really listened to Radiohead other than a few of there "mainstream" songs, until recently discovering In Rainbows. Of course I have heard Creep, which I like, but to me it seems like it is equivalent to PJ's Jeremy, in the sense that it is one of the songs that made them popular. So, I was wondering what album would be good to start off as a "new listener". I'm actually going to check them out this tour for the first time. In Rainbows has some amazing songs....Nude, Reckoner, All I Need. Thanks in advance.

I think Radiohead mix up their albums quite a bit live, so if you're looking to get to know as many songs as you can to prep for their live show I couldn't pick just one or two albums to get you caught up to speed sorta say.

I'd personally recommend these albums in order:

    1) OK Computer (likely the favorite by most fans)
    2) The Bends (just great)
    3) Hail to the Thief (my personal favorite after in Rainbows)

If you didn't have any of their albums I'd say buy their boxed set, but if you want to buy single albums I've seen most of them selling for pretty cheap these days, so I'd recommend picking up at least a couple albums to get a good taste.

    Enjoy the adventure...

I'd say buy 'OK Computer' because it has their masterpiece "Paranoid Android."

    Or 'Hail to the Theif'.

OK Computer is my favorite... and perhaps the most generally accessible... you should probably start with that... ENJOY!

In Rainbows made me a die-hard fan!!!

But I consider Kid A to be the greatest album ever made!!! It took me four years to realized that. Amnesiac is very underrated and of course OK Computer is a must have.

I think The Bends is a good record but it just seems traditional to me now after falling in love with Kid A.

    My ranking of Radiohead:
1: Kid A (greatest album ever made)
2: In Rainbows (Classic grade A material)
3: OK Computer (Another classic grade A material)

4: Amnesiac (If you like Kid A, you should like this too, maybe not as much)
    5: The Bends (B- album)
    6: Pablo Honey (Good cheesy Brit-pop :D)
7: Hail to the Thieve (I actually don't like this album)

    good call...

this is the album that got me into Radiohead.

i would also recommend Itch (post-PABLO HONEY, pre-THE BENDS release)...

and the EP My Iron Lung...some great songs on here.

I heard that box set that their last label released is a steal. Its got all the albums (except in Rainbows) and its like $40 something here in Canada. Just get that. Its all good music.

I suggest Kid A. It is similar to In Rainbows except Thom uses his voice in a unique, but incredible fashion. Not much guitar going on though.

If you want guitar, get The Bends.

If you want a mix of both, get OK Computer.

Amnesiac is better than Kid A- i dont care what anyone says. But OK Computer/The Bends are the two best so start with them.

How can that be? Kid A is the greatest album ever made by any band!

kid A, ok computer and the bends. buy all three and listen to them all over and over and over. then get amnesiac. pablo honey is not as bad as everyone makes out, it just lacks direction. hail to the thief is just not up to standard... radiohead standard that is.
according to me, radiohead are the best band in the world today. ;):D i just can't get enough of them atm.

Yep, go in order. But don't skip Amnesiac, it's great!

I agree I don't think Amnesiac gets the love it deserves.

I'd say start with the bends though. I don't think its necessarily their best album but its what got me into radiohead and I think its the best album to start with.

Amnesiac is brilliant. I have listened to every Radiohead CD a countlesnumber of times and cannot believe that peop don't appreciate this album. Sometimes I wonder what people would have thought about it if it cam out before Kid A...
