Blue October/Hoobastank

My girlfriend made me download Blue October's "Hate Me " tonight. About halfway through the first listen I started singing Hoobastank's "The Reason" Anyone else hear the similarities? I don't really care for either band, but she didn't hear any similarities and blamed it on me being drunk. The songs, especially the choruses sound very simillar to me. Just curious if i'm the only one that hears this.
I know we've been to Ohio and I know we've never been to Toledo, and i know i've never smiled while wearing a speedo.

    I hate that damn song and it's on the radio every 10 minutes it gets me sick!!! SUCK ASS radio plays that and not a new pearl jam song WTF!!!
