Any good? They're playing a show near me and I'm thinking of going but haven't heard much of their new stuff. Any thoughts? What kind of stuff are they playing these days? Older or only new stuff? Thanks.
What?!? No, We can't stop here, this is bat country.

Here's one of their new songs: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MKhkIEUIXRo I personally love it.

I think the shows are a mix of new and old.

Saw them a couple of months ago. I like the new album.

They played plenty of old with a few new. I'd definitely see them again :)
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
  • I saw them here in L.A. in May. They played maybe 5 new songs, the rest old. It was kinda weird, more like watching a cover band than the actual band itself since Shannon obviously wasn't there. LOTS of songs from Soup :).

The one thing that almost ruined the show for me was Roger Stephens, the lead guitar player who stands on the right side of the stage. The ENTIRE time he kept making these stupid ass goofy faces, crossing his eyes, etc. Never seen someone so annoying looking on stage ever.

Could it have been guitar face?
I have heard I don't have a guitar face but I know quite a few friends that do. And they look really goofy.
    Shows:
    San Diego 2003
    Grand Rapids 2004
    Grand Rapids 2006
    Detroit 2006
    Columbus 2010

  • see them live if you get the chance. the new guys sings the old songs really well, and they play a lot of them. the band sounds as tight as ever.
As for the new songs, they have a nice, melon-y sound to em, but the lyrics are borderline awful. The new songs aren't bad if you zone out and just enjoy the sound.

And don't pick on Rogers. Yes, that is his guitar face. Yes, it's goofy. He's had it on stage forever. He is an amazing guitarist.

I think i posted this someplace else, but here's a clip of Toes i took last time i saw them:

For My Friends is one of the best of the year and would have been the best in several recent years.

I don't even care for the old stuff that much, although, I have found a new appreciation for some of it.
  • The "new" Blind Melon recaptures the "old" vision and enrgy perfectly. The rest of the band - and specifically Brad Smith and Chris Thorn - have continued to be part of amazing project after amazing project since Hoon's passing, and this reformation was handled perfectly from the start.

I've played the guitar for thirteen years, with a few bands even, and I'm fully aware of the guitar face. And I'm sure that I looked goofy at times. But I NEVER smiled at the audience while crossing my eyes to look goofy on purpose. That's just stupid.
  • I do not think this show is going to happen. Travis the new singer just placed a blog that he is done. His voice is shot beyond repair. I can only hope that it just needs a much longer rest than they originally thought but it's not looking good at all. I am just truly sad if this is the case. I would say go to their myspace page and see the blog.....

I am really truly bummed by this information. I have been behind this 110% from the very 1st show. I had such a amazing experience with all of those guys from 10/07/07 on. My fingers are crossed that a miracle happens
