Scott Weiland's second solo album, "Happy," will arrive Nov. 18 via his own Softdrive label. The set was co-produced by Weiland and Doug Grean, with Steve Albini also engineering a handful of songs.

"Happy" boasts guest appearances from three members of No Doubt: Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young.

Although the full track list has yet to be announced, "Happy" includes "Paralysis" (a Bowie-esque midempo with a crunchy chorus) the banjo- and acoustic guitar-addled "She's So Cold," the peppy rocker "Talk About Love," the bedroom pop-leaning "Somedays" and the glammy, riffy "Missing Cleveland."

Weiland is planning to tour in November in support of "Happy," with dates to be revealed. Until then, he's on tour with the reunited Stone Temple Pilots through Oct. 31 in Pelham, Ala.

Christ, Albini must have charged him an arm and a leg in "dickwad" tax to touch those tracks.

Me too, this all sounds very interesting. Although I was never really crazy about 12 Bar Blues. I hope he can get his shit together over the next few months....*waits for sarcastic reply* :)

I worked with a guy who interned for Albini...he said that weiland pretty kissed albini's ass until steve said he'd do it. I wouldn't expect too much good to come from this.

I thought "Thank You" (the greatest hits of STP) was a bad album name. This one is even worse.

Yeah :o I think Albini has a rule where he'll record anyone who'll ask but his fee is on a sliding scale depending on how much he wants to do it. He'll help out upcoming bands that he likes, sometimes even waiving his fee. Apparently he charged $1500 for the entirety of Surfer Rosa but when the Pixies were signed to Elektra, a major label, he charged far more than that for just a couple of tracks :D

I can't imagine a guy with such stringent criteria of musical "ethics" would be the slightest bit interested in Scott Weiland.

I thought 12 Bar Blues was okay, but it's hard to imagine this new one being any good at this point.

Wasn't he pretty strung out during that time? I imagine it will be an exploration in space.

Oh, he was. But it's ten years and a shitload more of crack later.

  • It's hard to imagine when he would have even recorded the album. Didn't he go straight from a VR tour to touring with STP? And we all know what state he's been in since the STP tour started......

I'll be sure to check it out though, I still think the guy's talented, despite what a great big fuck up he is.

Add me to that. 12 Bar Blues is amazing, just so all over the place and experimental. He took a chance with it and it paid off.

I'm really looking forward to 'Happy'. Or 'Happy In Galoshes', whatever it's going by now.
