Listen To The Lion (studio version)
  • I'm not a van morrison fan at all but I just wanna say that the song he did on "The Last Waltz" movie just really annoys me. I can't explain it, but it just irratates me. I guess this is a pointless post

  • Maybe a common place, but gotta say "Sweet Thing"... everything from Astral Weeks... simply amazing (except for Cyprus Avenue, 'cause the version on It's Too Late to Stop Now leaves me breathless).

Probably Caravan....but really anything from Moondance will work. :)

And It Stoned Me is great.....so is Crazy Love....so is Moondance itself. :)

Almost impossible to choose. It was Sweet Thing for a long long time and I still think it's one of the best songs ever written, up there with Shelter From The Storm by Dylan...

I'll pick five current faves cus I can't pick one:

    Hymns to the Silence
    Ballerina
    In The Garden
    Wavelength
    Queen of the Slipstream

I just like absolutely everything he does. Breathtaking.

    Moondance

Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
’neath the cover of october skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I’m trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Can I just have one a’ more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I can’t wait ’til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you’re never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can’t hide

Can I just have one a’ more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

La, la, la, la in the moonlight
    On a magic night
Can’t I just have one more dance with you my love

Wavelength has to be one of my faves by the Man. It took me forever and a day to find that disc.

My other faves that I like to pick from an albums are: Full Force Gail and Glad Tidings. It helps that I can play the harmonica to the sax in Glad Tidings too. ;)

A true artist that you can just chill with the entire album and not have to worry about skipping a bad song.

For the guy/girl who couldn't dig Van the Man on the Last Waltz.......turn it up, radio, got soul!!! :)

  • :) Van the the man! I could pretty much put on any album and just sit back and enjoy. Of course, Moondance is a great tune but I also enjoy Into The Mystic...I like Tupelo Honey, Days Like This, Did Ye Get Healed, ooo and Spanish Rose!!! :) My recent fave is Blue Money though--so much fun and the tune behind the "doo-doo-ya-doo's" in that song is the Sesame Street theme, I swear!!! :D

I just put the Moondance album on.....I fucking love this thing....every song is fantastic.

From "And It Stoned Me" onward.....the whole damn thing is awesome.
  • Sweet Thing---listening to it at this moment actually
  • No one has mentioned Brown-eyed Girl yet? Hello.....its only one of the greatest feel good songs of all time.

I also like Into the Mystic.

And I will stroll the merry way
    And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
    And they'll get high
    On a bluer ocean
    Against tomorrow's sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain

    Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I shall drive my chariot
    Down your streets and cry
    'Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite
    And I don't know why'
And you shall take me strongly
    In your arms again
    And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain.
    We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
    Grow so old again.

    Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I will raise my hand up
    Into the night time sky
    And count the stars
    That's shining in your eye
Just to dig it all an' not to wonder
    That's just fine
    And I'll be satisfied
Not to read in between the lines
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever
    Grow so old again.
    Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
    Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes
    And your saint-like smile....

If i had to pick a favorite from Moondance though, it would be Caravan. And even though it's been remade a million times, Have I Told You Lately is mine and my husbands "song", nobody can sing it like Van.
