I went to one show where I was in the second row of the balcony. The place is a lot bigger than the seating chart looks. The performer looked tiny and the sound was a bit muffled. But the theatre is beauftiful and I'm sure where you'll be sitting it will be amazing! However, if I buy tickets off of ebay for night 1 (as planned) I will not be further back than the first loge. It's just not worth it.

    best way?
get a car service (like carmel) to drop you off and pick you up a block or two away from the venue

    cheapest?
    subway as noted

I told my boss I need to leave early on the 5th to go to the concert, and asked him how much for a cab from Penn. He looked at me funny and said It would be difficult to find a cab to go to Washington Heights

I think he is just being an ass, could this be true?

finding a cab to go up there-no problem
finding one after the show might be tough
although I saw plenty of gypsy cabs honking at me while I was waiting for my car

    subway is fine

good to know. i will be going straight from work so the subway is the way to go there but as i am more than likely flying solo even home, may prefer a cab.

that said, can anyone guesstimate how long the subway ride is from 8th/42nd up to 175th? be nice to plan my time. also, i always hear mentioned this dinosaur BBQ...where is it and can i get a quick meal there?

Not super quick and you may have to wait for a table. Good food though.

If you are flying solo, try to follow the large groups that piles into the subway after the show-bit safer than waiting around for a cab.

    too bad, might've been interested.
how long time-wise on the subway tho as i asked?
that will make a big difference for what i can do pre-show.
    grazie!

and thanks for the tip. i'll see how it goes after the show. i usually prefer taking a cab when solo late at night, but sure with a crowd, all is good too.

I saw Van Morrison there back in November.
There is a parking garage right down the block if you have to drive. I would not worry about the neighborhood.... great pizza on the corner.

Once inside the place is pretty cool. I dont really think there is a bad seat.... the sound may get a bit muffled under the overhang but arent we used to the muffled sound of Ed's speach? It should not be an issue.

    The night should be great.

But for the return... I'm pretty sure the train is no longer an express. I think it's only express until 10:30.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. You will be on the train with a bunch of other fans. That area is full of NYC history. Take a moment to look at the buildings, the people and fell the culture. It's really an amazing place.
