Caught up in the Poster Craze - Negatives

Hi all

Never really understood the fuss, and after my recent bullshit experience, dont want to.

So someone contacted me about a trade. I made mention that I had a poster that Pearl Jam and U2 had played at Hawaii (birthday present from the now ex), that I really didnt want, didnt like the design, and hate U2.

They wanted to swap it for a Toronto, the blue one with the dragons. I was happy with that cos I liked the design and have a thing for dragons. They explained mine was worth a bit more, and offered a bit of cash. How the hell do I know how much they are worth, but trusting the person, I accepted.

The only instruction I got was 'make sure you protect it with acid-free paper.'

Too easy.

If anyone knows that PJ poster, its a big bastard! So tried rolling it into a tube. The tube was too small, and the poster got creased. Didnt mind because I read here how creases frame out, so wasnt bothered. In the end, the biggest tube I needed was gonna cost over $60 for purchase/shipping/insurance/tracking etc.

Fuck that!

It already had a crease, so I folded it, wrapped it with the acid-free paper, put on the tracking etc, and sent it.

This where the bullshit started.

I got THE most abusive email saying how I fucked a perfectly good poster and why didnt I put it in a tube blah blah blah. I explained how the creases frame out, but she went on about the paint has flaked away and whatever else.

How fucken rude is that?????

Now she wants her quote 'prefectly shipped, crease free, still worth something' poster endquote, and her money back from me, cos she reckons the poster I sent her is destroyed!!!

I aint sending shit back!

What the fuck is that all about?!?!?!?!

After i got screwed with this swap, Im never going to bother with posters again, its crap!!

Someone please give me some support so I can put this bitch in her place!!
Stars walk the red carpet because they're famous - I walk the toilet paper because im the shit.

I thankfully now know what a rude and inconsiderate peice of work you are and will never let you near one of my posters

How could you even think that doing that would be okay?

Ive heard that there are assholes in Australia, but you really take the cake.

If I was that chick I would be sending my used sanitary products and framing them for you.

Um, are you really that ignorant and rude? Send her the poster back. What you did was pretty messed up. You're lucky it wasn't me involved in that trade.

sorry, man. I gotta agree with her on this, unless you warned her about what you were doing. I think she had an expectation, and a reasonable one, that she wouldn't be getting damaged goods. That kind of thing has to be explicitly stated, because she may not have made the deal in the first place given all the information.

Best thing to do is keep calm and try to find a compromise. Maybe keep the Toronto, but send her her money back. The poster you sent her is definitely worse far less than it was before it was creased, and that sounds like it was all you.

are you seriously looking for support here??? what you did was fucked up

you shouldve figured the shipping cost into the trade if it was that big of a deal... you were lazy, cut corners, and fucked up a very valuable poster...

dont know where you heard that creases can be miraculously fixed by framing... but thats not really the case... im sure the paint was damaged and theres likely multiple creases that will be visable in certain light

i understand that youre not big in the poster biz but how can you not understand the other end of this deal and sympathize?!?

how would you like to buy a piece of pottery and receive it in pieces? "oh you cant tell if you just glue it together"

people are very trusting on this board to do trades with complete strangers and its things like this that make it unlikely for people to be as trusting again in the future... i would DEFINITELY return the poster and cash... and consider yourself lucky if you get your fucked up poster back in return

why you fold one of those posters is beyond me...if you can't afford to pay for the shipping cost...include in your price...or in this case...just cancel the trade and find your poster on ebay

This is 100% correct. Wow. That was moronic. It's so funny that the wrong side of this deal is the one who posted to the board. Kinda cracks me up except for the person who's got the ass end of the deal. Bummer : (

ha... no kidding... hopefully the other person in this trade sees this thread and weighs in on her feelings... kindof surprised the OP hasnt expressed his disbelief yet that we all disagree with him... but i hope this thread is enough to persuade him to do the right thing here... no name calling necessary... im sure it was an honest mistake... definitely a sacrilege around these parts though :D

there's no way this was a mistake...honestly, how can any person think that folding up a poster like that will somehow magically end up like new in a frame? someone said it earlier...but this guy was just plain lazy and idiotic...

i cant even imagine opening my mailbox and seeing my poster wrapped as if it were an album... ha... i had it happen to me once on ebay... it was just some cheapy promo poster that i was using to decorate a wall and i only spent like $10 but i was pissed cause they didnt say anywhere that it was folded... i think thats the main problem with these situations... people expect one thing and are REASONABLY angry when its not up to snuff

Thinking I might cause a bit of a ruckus in the Porch. I am gonna start a thread basically saying I got caught up in the whole poster-mania thats sweeping the site. Then im gonna talk about my first successful trade, and how I folded their poster up to fit in an A3 envelope as the poster tubes were too expensive and I didnt see what the fuss is about

Still deciding what poster to say I sent. Might make one of you guys the lucky recipient, so play along haha

Should get a few tongues wagging

What you did is unforgivable. If I were you I would suck it up and send her the print and money back. I take it you recieved a nice condition poster from her?
