Whew, its been a hectic few weeks of NYC Pearl Jam planning, but I am almost there!!!!

So, it's gonna be my first trip to New York!!!! I've got tickets to both MSG shows to see Pearl Jam!!!! And the list goes on, I am sooo excited!!

So, my question, I am looking at staying at a hotel around 57th and 9th ave, is that a good part of the city to be in? From that location, how easy is it to get around the city-like to the subway, MSG, etc?

Any advice would be great!!

57th and 9th is totally fine. lots of places to eat, lots of people around, many stores and you're right by central park...columbus circle is a great area. [btw, there really are very few "bad" areas of nyc these days, but i understand your concern :)]

personally, if it's your first time in nyc, i'd walk down to the garden one (or both) nights. msg is on 36th and 8th, it's about a 20 min walk...

subway will be very easy - it's 3 stops from your hotel to msg.

have fun and welcome to the greatest city in the world ;)

That's a good, very nice area. The subway is right there and it is very easy to get around to MSG and anywhere else around the city from there. Enjoy coming to one of the greatest cities on earth. :D

I'll be in Chi-town next weekend. Great City.
As far as you in NYC, you are gonna be in a great area (basically Hells Kitchen). Not a bad walk to the Garden with some cool visuals. And you are gonna be right by the Columbus Circle subway.
    Like Duke Ellington says :
Take the A train !!!! (stops literally within the Garden/Penn station)

  • My wife and I are also coming from Chicago, first trip to NYC, and staying at the Hudson Hotel which sounds like where you might be staying (or close by). Maybe we'll bump into you.

I used to work at the Hudson! Small world, and even smaller rooms. I'm warning you it is in your best interest to spend as much time out of that matchbox as possible. The plus side is the rooftop bar and outdoor patio by the restaurant and of course you are in a fantastic location, right at columbus circle and central park.
