Saw Neil Young on this years Roskilde Festival. It was a great show and all the reviews gave him high scores. But one of the reviews said that this was the first time he played "Hey hey, My my" since 1994 following Kurts suicide. Is that true??

Here’s a good site for NY setlists: http://www.sugarmtn.org/

HHMM was played in 1995 with Pearl Jam backing and 1996 with Crazy Horse backing and many more times after.

    July 1996 San Francisco

    June 1999 Chicago

Ok. So they were wrong. Did find it kinda hard to believe, cause he didn't really introduce it. You would think that he would've made some sort of statement about playing a song for the first time in 14 years.

    Thanks for the answer.

  • i may be remembering incorrectly, but wasnt it pearl jam that played the song on snl right after kurt's death and then presumably not have played it since? could the writer be confusing the performers somehow?

i know form reading "shakey" (an AWESOME neil young biography) it said that it has become "legend" that neil swore to never play it again after kurt's death, but in fact he played it at the bridge benefit 1994, which was his second live performance after kurt's death....not sure how often its been played in the years since

just read that bit the other day when leafing through the book
"I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young

After looking through his setlists on sugarmtn.org, it seems that HHMM is played alot! It appears in like half the lists.

PJ has played it since then. According to the setlist archive it has been played 12 times, last in 2003.
