(sigh)

just wanted to express this though/ feeling. I miss the excitement of waiting and hearing and-promise-myself-not-to-listen-to-leaks-but-still-do attitude I always get when a new album arrives. I miss some new Pearl Jam ;-(

This post is not to whine, just to express... I'm just curious what direction you think (or hope) they will take on this new album? For me: less country and more experimental. I don't mind an instrumental or a spoken word piece, that takes me by surprise...

That what I love about this band anyway; their talent to reinvent. I would love to hear something like Yield or No Code again. Don't get me wrong, I like selftitled (a lot better than Riot Act), but it was their back-to-basics album. Now I'm yearning for something new. Just my opinion. What are your hopes/thoughts?

But they need and deserve a nice long rest...they essentially toured and recorded from Sept 2005 to June 2008...

True too... I'm just a needy and greedy bastard, i guess ;-) But seriously, I just miss the excitement. I think they are one of the most daring artists out there - lyrically and musically - just curious what they will come up with next. On the overall 2008 was musically an uninventfull year. (It seems I can't spell anymore, too tired, my apologies.)

They toured from Sept 2005 to Dec 06. Since then they've toured a total of 2 months in the last 2 years. A month in Europe in 07 and a month on the east coast this year. I find it slightly odd that we don't have an album yet. At least after Riot Act they were active in 03, some of 04 and lots of 05. The last 2 years have easily been the least productive they've had as a band. I know they have lots of other stuff going on and I respect that. They don't owe it to us to tour every year. Look at U2 or Green Day. They were both HUGE in 2005 and neither has even played 1 show since. As for 2009 I'm sure we'll get an album and hopefully a full tour. I just hope it happens soon as a lot of us plan our vacations and such around the bands schedule. If anything these long breaks should make us value the band even more since it's obvious they're not going to be touring and recording like they did 10 years ago.

Only if you live in the States. I live in Europe. Even if a new album comes, it's still uncertain if they tour Europe. That alone makes me want to live in the States. Only that though ;-). Like Amsterdam too much.

They had been working on the self-titled album even before Sept. 2005. They started working on it after the Vote for Change tour.

whatever....they need to be left alone in my opinion... That Ten re-issue thing is coming out in March...that's good enough for me...for now...

PS. I was trying to be vague in my first post regarding time frame. Didn't really expect a bunch of statisticians to jump all over me and point out the flaws...yipes...

  • Country??? Apparently you don't know the difference between a bluesy sound, which is what mike has always done really, and country. Pearl Jam are as much country as Led Zeppelin. I don't think one Pearl Jam song can be classified as country. Speaking of country, Hank Williams is amazing! :D

EDIT: I guess Crazy Mary has a country sound to it, but that is a cover.
On Avocado, some one might mistake that as country(even though it isn't even close) It's the weirdest song on the album though.;)

I'm sorry, this is the first time I think I have been upset at something someone has said on this board. But people calling things that aren't, country, it makes me kind of mad. It's one of my pet peeves.

  • There's a huge difference between folk and country. Listen to James Taylor then listen to Hank Williams. You'll get my point.

Hahahaha, I'm sorry to upset you (and that I'm the first one on this forum! I mean some harse things are said here, I didn't mean to set a precedent). It was two o'clock in the morning when I wrote the message. (I live in Europe.) And it's true I do miss the excitement of a new album.

And you're right of course. The Selftitled album is anything but country. And hey, I fuzzing love blues. I was actually thinking more about the folky feel (mind you; not country) of Into the Wild, while I truly love this album, or (and it may be me) *country* feel of some Gossards new songs. I mean, I really don't mind the going-back-to-basics, to not "overproduce" songs and recapture what song writing is all about. I truly respect that. There is too much crap out there. I just hope, and this is of course a personal wish, that they will write something more experimental; crisscrossing the genres. I'm thinking of Sleight of Hand, I'm open, Who You Are, Push me pull me or even the classic feel of Inside Job etc. Songs that sound odd in the beginning, may even shock you and then open up. I guess that I'm just curious with all the new influences I'm hearing (the solo projects of Gossard, Vedder and Ament) what the new album will bring...

Sorry to upset you... Really didn't mean to.

True too. And I like them both, depending on my mood. (Or if my girlfriend left me or not.) I prefer James Taylor tho.

they just started recording in the fall
it is not unusual for it to take a year or more for pj to get a record out

    fall if we are lucky

and Jeff's comments make me think no shows until the record is done

if thats the case then miners should get the rest of their lives off... being a multi-millionaire rock star really isnt that tiring... soundcheck, dinner, concert, get drunk with friends...

the beatles toured Saturn and released 834 albums in their first 4 years
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
