Are they any good live? I've heard they sucked, and I heard they rocked. I'm a pretty big fan of their music, but they are pretty costly. Are they worth going to?

I dont have an answer for you, as I didnt get tickets.

But I heard the new record, and now feel like a complete idiot.

I would do anything to get to see them live. I mean just listen to the new record. Its unreal.

I was going to buy tickets during the public presale or whatever, and I decided against it.

Along with not seeing the Pixies when they were in town, this will be one regret I take to the grave.

I mean, I would think they arent going to be around much longer. Many of us on the board werent even born when they first created the band.

I say go see them. It is expensive. But every concert is worth it.

Music saved my life. It is the most important thing to me.

    GO SEE THE CONCERT!!

i've never been fortunate enough to be in town when the chili peppers come. and i've never been rich enough to travel to go and see them. But i've heard amazingly good reviews of the concerts. One of my buddies went to see them and he got the shittiest seats in the house, behind a concrete pillar and everything, but the music rocked so hard

I've seen them three times. It's a good show. I was always entertained. I never thought it was one of the better ones I've seen, but it was always worth the trip and money. John is pretty impressive live. The Slane Castle DVD is a pretty accurate look at their live show.
  • a friend of mine once told me that he saw them in toronto and they were horrible. i was really surprised as he was a bit of a fan...

anyway, i find the chili's are all over the road when it comes to people's opinions of their shows. some people say they suck, some say they rock...

i saw them at slane castle in co. meath ireland and they were absolutely brilliant! definitely one of the best shows i have seen. you can rent the slane castle performance on dvd if you want to get a good sense of the live show...the dvd is great quality and sound, but some of the shots are a little quick, if you know what i mean...anyway, just an option to check out and see how you might feel about the live show :)

On the One Hot Minute Tour.....years ago....I won a competition in T.V. Week where me and my girlfriend were flown to Melbourne, 5 star accomodation, meet and greet before the show, backstage passes and awesome reserved seating. I saw them then, then a week later in Sydney (where I am from) then at the Big Day Out a couple of years ago. Every time they put on a good show....but nothing compares to Pearl Jam!!!!!!! I'm going to both shows at Acer Arena in Sydney and have awesome tickets for both. CANT WAIT!!!!!!

I've seen them 3 times - once in 00, twice in 03. They're a fun show. They don't mix up the setlist like pj does, and my experience seeing them 2x in 03, was that that was plenty. But they're fun. I'm seeing them in Montreal and Quebec City this tour.

I saw them twice; once on the One Hot Minute tour and once on the Californication tour. I'll agree that it's a good show. Each time, they pretty much stuck with the hits and not much else. With both shows, I was a little disappointed that it was pretty much just the hits.

Although, I have the Hyde Park CD and it seems like they have gotten better live. They jammed more, had a more extensive set list, and it just sounded great. I hope they come to St. Louis as some point, I'd like to see them again.

I always think it's difficult to say whether a band are worth seeing live, as everyone has different opinions on what constitutes a good show.
If you like their music, then go see them. It's that simple. You have to make your own mind up :)

A RHCP show is more about the entertainment value and showmanship than it is about good music IMHO, except for Fruschante. I love that guy's playing.

i saw them on thier by the way tour, and had a great time. they were GA seats, and i was in the second row right in front of flea, so that may have affected how awesome i thought the show was. anyways, anthony doesn't sound very good live, but the rest of the band does.

that's all i have to say
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

WHAT!?!? How old do you think they are? They are only in their early 40s except maybe John. No one really knows how long any band is going to be around. As long as the Peppers keep themselves healthy and off of the H (mainly John and Anthony) then they should be good to go for quite a few years. I made sure that I saw them as soon as I could because I never knew if/when one of them were going to OD. I highly recommend checking them out ASAP for the simple fact that they kick major ass live!! Sure they can have off days but so does every other band. Don't base your decision on seeing them from what you read on here because you generally won't find a lot of Pepper love on these boards.

I've seen them twice and they were great both times. I've also heard several boots and own both official live DVD's and the Live at Hyde Park CD. Obviously, I'm a fan, so I'm biased, but frankly, in my opinion, anyone who says they suck live doesn't know a damn thing about good live music. It's true Anthony isn't always perfectly in key, but he always brings an energy to the show that few other frontmen could hope to compete with.

As for the music, it's always incredible. John improvises all his solos and he and Flea jam quite a bit. They have an almost telepathic connection when they improvise together that is amazing to watch. If you're into seeing some of the best musicians around creating something right before your eyes, then don't miss the Peppers. It's true that their setlists don't vary that much, but in my mind, the jamming makes up for it.
  • on the last tour what i hear was that most shows they played bad, tired set lists.. but every once in awhile they kicked out the jams with old stuff and blew the place away..

they're an amazing live band, but setlists have left something to be imagined.

It'll change with the over 2 dozen new songs they have to choose from :)

Damn straight, hendrix! I have always loved Anthony's voice even with the occasional off-key singing. If people want pitch perfect, soulless singing then go watch American Idol or listen to Celine Dion.

i saw a video of them playing Castles Made of Sand once,...

Kiedis was a bit off key, kind of fucking with it doing the chili pepper's funk thing..

and i thought, only he could pull that off..

sad thing was that it was 1990 and he was obviously stoned out of his mind :( ...

i'm sure anyone who cares enough about the band to read in a thread about them knows why that's so depressing.

    the performance was good though..

I've seen RHCP several times and it was the same each time.....Kiedis doesn't seem to put too much energy into it, but Chad & John & Flea more than make up for it.

Flea alone is worth the ticket price.
  • i saw them twice. The first time was during the werchter festival: the show was ok, but kiedes sung off key a lot. Second time was indoor, that show was much much better. Vocals were better, and as already said here: chad, john & flea are three great musicians.

saw them once in Paris 2003 or so.
only the singing was a bit of, the concert was cool.

    Ive seen them twice too.
My advice is if you havent seen them before then definately go because they are so energetic and the crowd just goes off on one.
Id say they were better indoors too.... but then again i hate outdoor gigs, i only went to the outdoor one cause they were playing with the Foo's and QOTSA.

    Saw them twice in Santiago...

Kiedis was way off key a bunch of times and they played the shortest sets ever!

Kinda regreted having gone... but oh well, it could've been Oasis--now THEY suck live!
