I'm in a search for new music but popular music often doesn't quite fit me, and I usually am enthusiastic about trying to share music that I like. So why don't you post some links, here are a few:
John Butler Trio (the main guy is a guitar genious!)

The man they call my enemy, I've seen his eyes
He looks just like me, a mirror
The more you read, we've been deceived
Everyday it becomes clearer,...
Clearer.

take a minute and enjoy...
They're my favorite band of all time and I'll gladly spread the gospel about them until the day I die. They're not very well-known outside of their home country of Canada and it's a complete mystery as to why, because I think they're easily one of the best rock bands on the planet. Lead singer/songwriter Gord Downie is arguably the best frontman in the biz, and they put on an absolutely killer live show that is second to none. Here are some links:

waiting for your lids to close..
but you want to watch as they peck your flesh..
Ironic that they go for the eyes first
TV on the Radio
Drive by Truckers
I'd recommend a British band called Porcupine Tree. They're freaking awesome, they get pigeonholed as a Radiohead-esque prog-rock throwback but they're actually just a fantastic modern rock band.

One of my absolute favorites that I rarely hear anyone talk about:
Kathleen Edwards
Both her "Back to Me" and "Failer" albums are excellent. She's opened for bands like MMJ and DBT, so if that tells you anything... more folk than rock, however...
Not signed yet.. won't be long. Self taught on their instruments talented guys

Ok it's my friends band but they do rock!
Agreed, Porcupine Tree is just awesome. Check "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"... 12 minutes of musical bliss.
Also, as I've done in other threads, I'd like to recommend The Gathering (http://www.gathering.nl). Just a freaking awesome Dutch band.
