Glory Years

I am debating with some of my friends about what the glory years for a certain band were. I'm not going to say which band it is because that's not the point of this post - the point is that my friends and I are actually arguing about what exactly 'glory years' are....I am arguing that the work the artist does in the glory years has to do more than just sell a lot and win awards, that it has to be influential on future bands and musical artists. They are arguing that the work the artist does in the glory years has to just simply be the artist's most commercially successful work.
