Have any of you seen them live?

I saw them about 5 years ago and it's quite a spectical. Interesting crowd. Rampant nudity and a lot of jostling and aggressive posturing. I'm not a huge fan of theirs but I have to say that their sound live is unbelievable. It was the loudest show I've ever been to.

Definitely seems like an odd choice for Bonnaroo.

  • ive seen them 3 times 97, 98, 04. the 04 show was definitely dangerously loud. the pyrotechnics were ridiculous. i was in the pit and my ears were actually hurting uncomfortably, like it wasnt fun, they hurt so much. but the show in 98 was completely GA, and ive never been in a mosh pit that can quite equal the all out chaos that ensued during fight fire with fire. it was nuts to say the least.

i would see metallica again in heartbeat if they come to van. great live i think.

  • Metallica will rock you harder than probably any other band. They are the band that's responsible for the Seattle noise ordinance as a result of the severe rocking they gave Queen Anne Hill when they played Memorial Stadium. I would even take a gander that they will outrock PJ. But then again, I'm a huge Metallica fan.

I saw them a few years ago in Seahawks stadium and it was one of the best outdoor shows I've ever been to.

they have a no taping policy now for Bonnaroo, no recording during metallica, Lars is gonna have lawyers on site to sue the fuck out of you! Ok, I was lying about the lawyers but seriously no taping during metallica

  • I have seen them several times since 1992. I have to say that they ROCK! Especially the ´92 tour with the 3 hour + show, the diamond shaped stage with the snake pit was amazing.

Twice - Feb. of '97 (Load) and Summer of '98 (Reload).

Both shows were awesome. They are a great live band, their shows are extremely satisfying for any fan, whether you just know their hits or have every album in their catalog. James says a lot of funny stuff. I'm sure they'll put a killer show at Bonnaroo.

I've seen them many times, but not since 2000. Whatever you think of their music (and I hate St. Anger but was OK with Load and ReLoad) they do bring it live.

I don't listen to Metallica much anymore, but there was a time I was a big fan. I saw them in their "Monsters of Rock" tour in '91 with GNR and Faith No More. Talk about a kickass show. Saw them again in Mannheim, Germany in '93 I believe. It was the middle of the summer and hot as fuck. And I remember the show being really long. I was sweating so bad and was so damn thirsty I actually remember contemplating licking the sweat off the shoulder of the girl in front of me. And this girl was in no way attractive. It helped me understand how the guys in the book "Alive" ate their dead buddies. :D

Seattle sound mosh pits have nothing when compared to the raging fans of alcoholica. If Jaymz is on, the show will be unreal, if not it will still be worth seeing Lars beat the shit out of the skins with some double bass action, Kirk weaving what a guitar solo really is, and Rob holding his bass like its his wang all night long.

Metallica is a MUST see live

  • I've seen Metallica live about 10 times since -93. Since Rob joined the band 02/03 a lot more focus in the live shows has been on the old material, which I think is great, Metallica's four first albums are awesome. However, I must say that the general performance has become a bit weaker the last couple of years. James' voice isn't as powerful as it once was and Lars' timing is a bit off. Kirk and Rob is however still great. They are still one of the best live bands around, together with Pearl Jam and NIN, but you should've seen them 15 years ago.

  • Saw them last year at Wembley Stadium on the Sick Of The Studio Tour. Absolutely blew me away. Fantastic live act but I'd love to hear more Load/ReLoad stuff, I love those two albums. Unfortunately I appear to be in the minority in that view.

I saw them 10 or 11 times I think, between 1986 and 1995. The first was obviously special, Cardiff 1986, it was just 2 weeks before Cliff was taken.
They are a decent live band, or were, I haven't seen them recently. They became slight victims of their own ambition around 91 I think, when they were doing a 3 hour set, with a documentary in place of a support act. It was ok, but a 3 hour set can get a bit boring after a while. Milton Keynes 93 was pretty good as I remember, also Wembley Arena 92. They never tour properly anymore :(
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Saw them in the last US show of the Black Album tour in 1993. Pretty good show, but they've changed a lot since then.

  • ive seen them twice, once in '03 and once in '04. . .i thought they were great live. . .except the first time i saw them at the summer sanitarium tour they took FOREVER to take the stage, we were waiting around for a long time after the act before them (i think it was limp bizkit yikes), kinda aggrevating when its a million degrees and your out there all day
