Most of my friends who are casual music fans if i asked them who the arcade fire was they would give me a look of "Who"
I think like wilco and pavement (i'll stick to those two examples) they are well known and well received by people who take time to look for good music, but those who use music as background noise and will take whatever the radio gives them don't know much about them.
I have a feeling that is what Arcade Fire want. They had a chance to jump to a major label but stayed with merge. Perhaps a few years down the road they will make the switch like death cab for cutie and modes mouse recently did and they will get more exposure.
I really don't know considering pretty much all my friends listen to the same sort of music....but I get what you are saying and I would have to agree with that....it just seems right now that they are huge!
They have a boatload of talent and I believe loads of good albums to come...plus I believe they will band that will not repeat their sound which is fucking great.0
