I just came up with this list for another forum, but I thought I'd share and you guys could share yours.

here's the records that changed my life:

Modest Mouse - Moon and Antarctica
GBV - Human Amusements
The Replacements - Let It Be
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me
Bonnie "prince" Billy - I See a Darkness
Whiskeytown - Stranger's Almanac
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

edit: haha I guess I got a bit carried away at first. these are my definitive, life changing records.

    for me:
    pearl jam- no code (97)
    pearl jam- pearl jam (06)
  • 311 - Grassroots and Pearl Jam - Ten
got them both at the same time when i was 11. two weeks later i asked my parents for a guitar. i've been playing ever since. those albums opened my eyes to my own world of music. i always listened to the classic rock my parents played, and i enjoyed it, still do, but it was when i got those albums that i came into my own personal relationship with music. i've been "collecting" cds/tapes/vinyls ever since! :)

and they are still my top 2 favorite bands ever! always will be! :)

I couldn't pick just two or three records. Each one of those records has been there for me at a different time and they each mean something different.

    it's honestly a heart-felt list.

These are records/discs that I can honestly say that, had I not heard them, my life would be very different. Some are good, some are great, some are terrible. But I can't deny their influence.

    Weird Al- Greatest Hits
Guns N Roses- Use Your Illusion I & II
Pink Floyd- A Collection of Great Dance Songs
Pearl Jam- Animal (single, with a Daughter/ABITW2 B-Side)
    REM- Automatic For the People
Smashing Pumpkins- MACHINA/The Machines of God

There have been other musical experiences, like high school band, concerts, mix tapes, etc, that have also had later effects on my life, but those are the albums that have most influenced my life to the point that I can say they've had a major effect on who I am and what I do today.

i think that'd be diff from life changing then, more like albums that saw you through the defining moments of your life.

the 2 i mentioned literally changed the direction of my life and who i was dramatically. if it was albums that had a large impact on my life or meant a lot to me at specific times, that'd be a much larger list ;)

but more so i was just giving you shit :)

There are a lot here because I am both a huge music fan and a guitarist. These are albums that pointed me in a new direction. They provided inspiration, or were an introduction to a genre that I never listened to before, but after words fell in love with. Some, I know directly influenced the course of my life afterwords. They are all important, even if some I don't really listen to anymore.

gonna have to go with -
Pearl Jam - Versus.. it is probably one of the most played albums i own. if i was sent to a deserted island and could only chose 1 album.. this would be it. soft/hard/fast/slow/depth/feeling... its everything an album should be.

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam a few songs on this album really describe what i was going through in my life.. leaving home under bad terms.. weirdest thing about it is that i was worried i was not going to get the album cause i pre-ordered it but i was leaving before the official release date (thank god for fan club early release). ended up getting it on the very last day i was "home".

Life Wasted and Gone really hit me.. i remember hearing Gone for the first time while unpacking my things.. was a really weird coincidence.
  • Live on Two Legs - Pearl Jam
    Nevermind - Nirvana
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
    Temple of the Dog
    Yield - Pearl Jam
    Vs - Pearl Jam
    No Code - Pearl Jam
    Vitalogy - Pearl Jam
    Dolittle - The Pixies
    Disentigration - The Cure
Gish, Siamese Dream, MCIS, Adore, Machina - Smashing Pumpkins (yes, they're THAT important)

After The Goldrush - Neil Young
Bleach - Nirvana (first song learned on guitar: About A Girl :) )
Blind Melon, Soup - Blind Melon

Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced

    * Nirvana - Nevermind.....introduced me to grunge (I wore so much flannel in highschool - ouch)

...after my GRUNGE phase I moved on and these next 2 "sets" of albums are what lead me to where I am now musically....

    * Sonic Youth - Dirty + Sebadoh - Bakesale + Eric's Trip - Love Tara.....got into all of them around the same time, my introduction to lo-fi/indie/noise rock

    * Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space + Slowdive - Souvlaki + My Bloody Valentine - Loveless....my introduction to shoegazer/space rock
