Free new Nine Inch Nails record

Amazing move.

Reznor's been damn busy the past few years, putting out record after record. It used to take five years between "true" releases, not remixed records.

Nine Inch Nails, in a surprise move, posted access to a free download of its complete new album, "The Slip," on its Web site this morning (May 5).

The ten-track album is available in several formats, including MP3 and high-quality lossless formats, via a link on NIN.com.

A statement on the site from frontman Trent Reznor says simply, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years -- this one's on me."

Nine Inch Nails plans to release “The Slip” on CD and vinyl in July and will use traditional brick-and-mortar distribution. Further details about the physical product have yet to be announced.

To get the download of “The Slip,” site users need to enter an email address, to which a link will be sent that will include access to all format options. All downloads will also include a PDF with lyrics and artwork.

Demand for the new music appeared to be immediate and heavy. Just after 9:30 a.m. ET, the site was slowed to a crawl due to traffic.

In addition to giving away the finished tracks, Nine Inch Nails is also giving away the multi-track files for “The Slip,” which can be reconstructed and then posted to Nine Inch Nails’ fan remix site, remix.nin.com.

As previously reported, Nine Inch Nails is reserving premium seats to its upcoming summer tour for fans who register through NiN.com prior to exclusive pre-sales.

    I think this whole thing is a wash. I entered my email address and usually that stuff is pretty quick. I haven't received a link in my mail for more than 20min.

    It takes awhile for the emails. Its clear that they're getting an amazing resonse I decided to hop on the torrent over at the pirate bay to take some of the load off their servers http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4173117/Nine_Inch_Nails_-_The_Slip Haha even though its free I feel bad downloading Trent's stuff from the pirate bay, but hey he said its Ok

    Thanks!! Seeing as I'm still waiting on my email from Coldplay:D, I don't think I'll be getting that email from NIN anytime soon either.

    Having been a NIN fan for some time and having seen them live before, I'd say this album is par for course. Also, the intro to 1,000,000 is almost an exact replica to the intro to PJ's Last Exit, so much so that I had to check and make sure my iPod wasn't on shuffle because I thought it was Last Exit.

    I've only listened to half of the record as I'm doing cd swap-cds and all. I really like what I've heard so far though, I can honestly say that TR has yet to disappoint me....

    the fact that hes cranking out GOOD music at the same rate pop stars are releasing shitty music is a definite plus too :D

    Haha, yeah it's nearly identicaal. I was shocked :). IMO 1,000,000 is the best song on that album.

    cool album artwork too... im sure theres something to it... like everything NIN does... too lazy to delve into possible meaning right now tho

    anyway... cant wait to get this in physical form... hopefully vinyl
