ANyone else into "Blues"? Who do you like?

over the past 5-6 months ive started listening to alot of blues.

Been listening to people like Muddy Waters, RL Burnside, Bill Broonzy, to BB king a little, and others I cant rememeber that I found at a flea market.

Who are some good blues artists that you think are worth checking out?

    well I could go on and on about the blues and how much I love it but anyway.......

    a few suggestions: Son House, Robert Johnson, Black Keys, Mississippi John Hurt, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bobby Rush, Willie Dixon, Blind Willie McTell..........OK, thats enough for now I guess

    Well, the greats are Buddy Guy, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Howlin Wolf, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and lastly probably the greatest blues guitarist ever...Stevie Ray Vaughn. SRV will blow your mind with some of his stuff. The blues is something I too just got into about a year or so ago and I love it.

    I agree with all of your choices. I am a big Blues fan myself. I believe that in order to understand the present you have to understand the past. And without the Blues we would not have some of the greatest rock and roll we have today.

    If you are a big SRV fan there is an interesting album of him playing with Albert King. I am not sure if it is in SRV's section or Albert's section in a record store. It is available on Cd and it is titled "Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session". It is interesting hearing the two play back and forth, and Stevie giving his respect to the Legend that Albert King is.

    Another one of my favorites is Buddy Guy's tribute to SRV on his album "Damn Right, I've Got The Blues" called Remeberin' Stevie. You can almost hear Stevie channeling through Buddy during that song.

    If you like contemporary blues or acoustic blues, you should try Keb' Mo'. He's a great musician and has a new album coming out this summer.

    Someone else threw his name in, but check out Robert Johnson. The OG of the blues. Supposedly sold his soul to the Devil for his talent at the Crossroads (see Ralph Macchio movie). Died from a poisoned bottle (reportedly by a jealous hubbie) and left a thirty song or so catalogue. Johnson is credited with inventing most riffs used throughout the history of the blues on to rock and roll. I've heard it said that any riff you hear has been ripped off from Robert Johnson. He was quite the interesting character.

    Check out the Irish Blues master Rory gallagher.He was invited to play on Muddy waters album in the 70's.

    He was asked to join the Rolling Stones too, after Mick Taylor left in 1974.

    Well, I correct myself. He was asked to audition for the Stones, and he did the audition, but I think there was a personality clash of sorts, and he went his own way.

    that Albert King/SRV disc is great indeed. I saw Buddy Guy perform about 10 years ago and he played 'Cold Shot'. f-ing awesome.

    I also agree with the Keb' Mo' nod. I think he is fantastic, though I prefer his debut the most. He does some great Robert Johnson tracks on that one. His more contemporary stuff is fine as well.

    T-Bone Walker, Son House are two that are definitely worth checking out as well.

    While i love the pure blues ive gravitated more towards heavy blues/rock stuff over time. While of course zeppelin and sabbath are the clear choices as staples my personal fav is probably humble pie. Check out their live at the fillmore cd, its mind blowing. I also recommend checking out a guy by the name of joe bonamassa if you get a chance. he was recruited to open for bb king at the age of 12 and plays some absolutely scorching blues. If ur into the pure stuff it doesnt get much better than srv as mentioned above and i also recomend luther allison. Hes an awesome underrated chicago blues guitarist.

    There have been a lot of good suggestions so far, but one that I dont think I saw and would definitely recommend is Taj Mahal. Great blues singer/guitarist who has had a very long and prolific career, which includes some of the greatest blues I've heard IMO as well as him returning to more traditional African roots. I'd either dl some random songs (A favorite of mine is "She Caught the Katy and Left Me A Mule to Ride") or go buy a compilation (Martin Scorsese Presents Taj Mahal is a very good one) to start off. I dont think you'll be disappointed.
