When this song first aired here in Dallas, the dj was singing the tom petty lyrics over it. When I posted this on the board that the song sounded like Mary jan's last dance... someone called me an asshole and asked if I was on crack. Glad to see someone put this up here finally. This has to be the worst chili peppers tune.. well the most lame anyway.

You know, I hate to say it, but the first time I heard WWS, I thought that PJ ripped off the Offsping in that main riff. I kept thinking "Gotta Keep 'em Separated"

The first time I heard that first Audioslave single, I thought they ripped off CC's own Big Dumb Sex

I can totally hear what you're talking about on this RHCP song. The only explanation I can offer for all three is that there's only so many chords and chord combinations. When you push too far into the possibilities, you get labeled "prog" or "art" rock...so if you want to make mainstram rock and roll, sooner or later you're going to have to cop someone else's shit, because it's all been done...all of it.

Hmm. WWS does sound a little like Come Out and Play. Ditto for Dani Cali and Mary Jane's

I've seen so many people try and copy Eddie Vedder's voice. It's as if if you don't sound like him you're not a man. - Emmett Roslan

There is already another thread dedicated to this topic. Big deal! It's a great song by the way even if it is similar to Mary Jane. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

    tom petty blows anyway
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.
