I am a huge clash fan and I believe that the posthumerous album Streetcore was an amazing album for Joe.

I was listening to the album tonight and I thought it would be cool if Eddie covered "silver and gold" at some point. It would be a fitting sing along at a solo show or a pre-set.

What does everyone else think?

I'd love to see Johnny Appleseed! When I went to see the Gutter Twins, they played that song over the PA while the roadies were setting up, and I think me and my friend were the only 2 people in the entire room who knew it. :p
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I'd love to see them cover X-Ray Style.
Jam out with your clam out.
  • While I came upon their music in different ways, I hold Joe Strummer AND Eddie Vedder on the same level of integrity and heart as I do Neil Young.

And yes, Streetcore is a hidden gem of an album! Personally, I LOVE Coma Girl and I think Ramshackle Day Parade is one of the coolest things Joe ever recorded!

Long Shadow would be a good one too.

I've always felt this, or Nitcomb would be good Ed solo covers.

    Other thoughts ....

Ted Leo actually has done Johnny Appleseed live a few times. It is such a great song.

If you haven't already, you should pick up "The Future is Unwritten" DVD ... well done bio about Strummer. (Made me want to go find some 101ers music).

Finally, as a poster collector, I have several Strummer prints ...

Huge Clash and Strummer fan! Was lucky enough to see hiim a couple of times (once just before he passed away RIP Joe). Didn't find out til a couple of years ago my brother's known his father in law for quite a while!!

Would love to hear the guys cover pretty much any Clash/Mescaleros song. Not sure it would suit their style, but my favourite Clash song at the moment is Hateful, I love that song!

Apologies to anyone who's already read this story....

I grew up with the Clash (3 older siblings) and when I was around 5 they had a clash lyric/song book that they used to give me and I'd sing along. I distinctly remember one time singing along happily to Stay Free, and when the lyric of 'piss on everyone in the classroom' came on they turned the stereo off and I sung it with gusto, only to realise what I'd sung too late. I cried and went to tell my Mam that they'd "made me swear again"!

True story - I was once an innocent and they corrupted me :p!

For those looking for the famous Acton Town Hall show ... the show where Mick Jones came up on stage for the final three songs, last time these two would ever be on stage together, I found this blog spot ...

They were going to open the Australia 2003 shows and then Strummer died. Johnny Marr and his band were the replacements.

Streetcore was Joe's best album since London Calling in my opinion. It's a criminally underrated gem. Coma Girl, Get Down Moses, Long Shadow, Ramshackle Day Parade, Arms Aloft, All in a Day.....hell, the entire album kicks ass. The other two Mescalero albums were excellent as well. Johnny Appleseed is probably one of the greatest songs Strummer ever wrote.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Johnny Appleseed and Coma Girl are my fave tunes ... but, I would love to see them jam out to Get Down Moses
