I was watching VH1 Classic earlier where this was a topic of discussion.

It got me thinking what everyone's opinions are here.

A certain song popped into my mind right away, but it was never named in that discussion. I just want to see a few responses before I mention the song.

Anyway, discuss. :)

'anthem' is a bit vague no? i mean is it true straight up rockers or moving ballads as well?

Id have to go with "Baba O Riley" easily, "Born to Run" is another and in the second category "Hey Jude" and "Stairway to Heaven"....not saying these are my favorites(although theyre all damn good) but I have a feeling those would be considered quintessential anthems
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin is the ultimate rock tune

Yeah, I agree that it's sort of vague, but it's a question that is open for interpretation.

Is it a song that makes you play air guitar? Or maybe a song that matches your view of the world? Or even the song that got you into rock music in the first place? There's no wrong answers, imo.
  • Enter Sandman..... actually scratch that, Master of Puppets by Metallica. Those are the first 2 that come to mind.

    Springsteen's 'Born to Run'
I was thinking the same. by no means even bruce's best song but definitely the perfect rock anthem.

  • I agree with Born to Run, too.

Being with 20,000+ people in the room with Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run is just an amazing feeling, even if you're not a fan. When that song is over, it's like, ,,,,,,whoa! Perfect !

I took my mom to see him once, because she was curious about him. She was 70 at the time, and she STILL talks about that moment.
    Jungleland live is amazing, too.

U2 "Where the Streets Have no Name" is a great song, too.
