Y'know, I'm a Metallica fan, but HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Suck it, Lars.

Actually I was just reading on the metallica forums that Lars was just interviewed on a Bay Area station. When they told him about the leak, he said "Happy Days" and doesn't give a shit. He said that with only 10 days till release that they are "golden". Wonder if this will move up the release. Same thing happened with St. Anger and they bumped the release up a week.

The Metallica forums are abuzz with people absolutely raving about the album. I haven't heard it yet, but it sounds to be pretty awesome.

Yeah...I bet when he left the studio after that interview was over, he choked a kitten

  • I dig it too. So far, Cyanide is the weakest link for me but I need a few more listens to hve a real opinion. Love The Judas Kiss.
  • That first song is fucking SICK. Holy shit. Where did that come from??? This album is really, really solid. Who ever would have seen this coming? Metallica actually made a good album again.

    wow.
  • My connection is slow so I'm waiting to just buy the CD. Hows Unforgiven 3?
  • I can't wait for the legit release, but I'll be rocking the DL until it hits. This is a great album.

You know when a movie franchise heads off in the wrong direction, and eventually they bring in a creative team that brings it back to its roots and the sequel created writes those previous shit sequels out of cannon? Think Superman Returns writing off parts III and IV...

That's what Metallica and Rick Rubin have created here. James Hetfield said that 2-years ago, Rubin gave them the assignment of pretending that the band had just handed in Master of Puppets half completed and now they had to go finish the album. They couldn't recreate those songs since they're already on the album, but the songs should be inspired by that sound. Well, this is no Master of Puppets, but they've accomplished the goal.

At the very least, this album bridges the gap between Justice and Black. While I do enjoy a handful of songs from the Load/Reload era, it's unquestionable that this step backward into their past - sort of writing off the post-Black era, is a huge leap forward into their future.

Sometimes James' voice is shot, but he has that growl and hunger back that he had before Load/Reload. Lars' kit may still sound strange at times, but his drumming is back to being an integral part of the structure and compexity of their songs, rather than just mindless bashing. The speed, the heaviness, the structure (and of course) the solos are back.

It's also pretty cool that they embraced some of their melodic Load/Reload elements, but worked them into the "new" old style as subtle enhancements instead of a pop-ploy for airplay.

Metallica haters will be haters...and some people may legitimately not like the music...but for the truest Met fans, those that have clinged to hope for almost two-decades...Death Magnetic is here.

  • Awesome review Shawn. I am loving the album after 3 listens. Definitely better than anything on St. Anger and better than most of the Loads (I am a fan of Load). It is a return to their old style but it doesn't sound old at all. I love it.
  • i downloaded it, but i am not going to listen.

i am just going to seed it to about 100,000%

    VIVA LA NAPSTER!
