The new Maiden album, "A Matter of Life and Death" is great! It's a concept, anti-war album, and IMHO, very reminiscent of the Seventh Son era. It's growing on me more and more with each listen.

Up the Irons!!!

"Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" kicks major arse also. It has one of the heaviest hooks that I've ever heard.

I like it. Sounds like Maiden and thats a very good thing. Maiden is a band I can count on for consistency.
  • this album is way better than 'dance of death' imo.....'For the Greater Good of God' is awesome.....best freakin song on the album....i love it...\m/

Great news. I love Iron Maiden and have been looking forward to this release. Honestly, their last album "Dance of Death" is my favorite one, start to finish. I'm sure I'm in the minority there.

This album rocks. I love all the long songs. One thing I love about Maiden is that they never gave in and did the power ballad love song in the 80's.

I am still waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon -- I took the free shipping option and got the ltd. edition version. I guess it'll be a few more days 'til I get to hear it all.

I like a lot of the stuff from DoD too -- Montségur is awesome.

I loved Dance Of Death and Brave New World. The new album is great also, 'Brighter Than A Thousand Suns' and 'Out Of The Shadows' are highlights for me.

A Matter Of Life And Death seems a lot heavier, i've heard Adrians playing in dropped D this time?!

I also really like Dance of Death, but this new one is a cut above that. After listening to it about 10 times now, it may very well be my favorite Maiden album. Their old stuff is classic, but here in 2006, this one seems really relevant. I'm very impressed with their musical evolution over the years. This new album really demonstrates their mastery.

I liked Brave new world, but wasn't as big on Dance of death, must give it another go. This one's better, back to the old Maiden me thinks, Seventh son ... was one of my favourite albums, and as someone said this is not too far from that style/feel, needs a few more listens though before I'm familiar with the tracks, but I do love Different world already, great album opener.

  • Is Bruce Dickinson still in Maiden? Forgive my ignorance, I thought they retired after 7th Son. They probably should have.

  • One of the cool things about the new Maiden album is that it was "anti-mastered". In other words, they left it exactly the way it was after mixing. They didn't compress the living shit out of it or jack the volume up into high heaven like most bands do, including our beloved Pearl Jam. So it's basically an audiophile quality release. I wish more bands would do this!

yes, he is. That's not ignorance, it's nonsensical crap. The only bad shite Maiden really ever did was when that fucking Blaze Bailey took over vocals ... eurgh ... I don't even count those albums as Maiden.

Audiophile release...good to hear this...still waiting for my copy. Just listened to Remember Tomorrow earlier today while driving down 65 in Indiana.

I love metal....I love just about all types of rock music, though.

  • I've never ever given Maiden a chance, but for some odd reason I am considering it. Can someone do me a favor and post what they think is the best song on the album on yousend it in the name of convincing me? I just may go buy the album, all the people on this board talking about them makes me wonder.

Personally I kind of like the Paul Dianno punk Maiden better than the Bruce Dickinson Maiden. Go to Itunes or some such music sight and download "Running Free" that song rocks. Especially if you've got a soft spot for a little bit of punk rock.

I picked up "Matter of Life and Death" today. I managed to get the "Deluxe" edition that Circuit City had (I think only CC had it), which comes with a poster (big deal) and a DVD of teh making of the album and other shit (fuck yeah).

I gave it a listen in the car, love it so far. I'll write more later. There's so much going on in a Maiden CD that it's hard to take it in on the first listen. I will say right away it is better than Brave New World, but not sure it it tops Dance of Death (which I love.

The weather darkens and gets breezy, and it's time for metal. Up the Irons!

The album is better and better with every listen. The sound is great and damn near every song is epic. It will make my top ten for 2006.

    Hoping for a tour.

I am pretty sure there is a tour in North America kicking off this Fall. I plan on checking this out -- they were pretty good in their short set at Ozzfest last year...saw them in Detroit. Black Label Society was awesome...as well as the Sabs themselves!

  • "For The Greater Good of God" is not only one of the best Madien songs ever (along with Hallowed Be Thy Name & Fear of the Dark), but i would say it is one of the best metal songs ever. It is EPIC!

The new Maiden is infuckingcredible! Any fan of metal should get it.

And, if you do (and you should), buy it at Circuit City. They have a special edition version (same cost, $13.99) taht includes a bonus dvd with 45 minutes of stuff on it. May as well.

Nothing is more epic than Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
