Today is the 40th anniversary of The Beatles releasing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. something very deserving of a thread in my opinion

my opinion of Sgt. Peppers? well, you'll all think I'm crazy, but I think it's UNDERRATED. that's right. why? while the album as a whole is praised to the high heavens, the individual songs seem to be overlooked. you rarely hear someone name Fixing a Hole or Lovely Rita to be among their favorite Beatles songs. the mind-blowing production values of Mr. Kite and Within You Without You are taken for granted by many people (Within You in particular) It seems like the only song to get it's just due as a masterpiece is A Day in the Life. my favorite album is The White Album (it's longer and contains my 2 personal favorite Beatles songs: Helter Skelter and Back in the USSR) but no album as a whole compares with Pepper's. the songs paint such beautiful pictures. be is novelistic as with Paul's songs (When I'm 64, She's Leaving home) or descriptive as with John's (Mr. Kite, Lucy in the Sky). I thank God that my dad got me into the Beatles at such a young age. I don't know where I'd be without them

edit: and has anyone ever noticed that Within You Without You has the most brilliant lyrics ever written? kudos to George there
