Only just properly discovered this band....

I'm blown away, Nick Cave is truly a beautiful lyricist.....

Im addicted to Love Letter....

I hold this letter in my hand
A plea, a petition, a kind of prayer
I hope it does as I have planned
Losing her again is more than I can bear
I kiss the cold, white envelope
I press my lips against her name
Two hundred words. We live in hope
The sky hangs heavy with rain

Love Letter Love Letter
Go get her Go get her
Love Letter Love Letter
Go tell her Go tell her

A wicked wind whips up the hill
A handful of hopeful words
I love her and I always will
The sky is ready to burst
Said something I did not mean to say
Said something I did not mean to say
Said something I did not mean to say
It all came out the wrong way

Love Letter Love letter
Go get her Go get her
Love Letter Love letter
Go tell her Go tell her

Rain your kisses down upon me
Rain your kisses down in storms
And for all who'll come before me
In your slowly fading forms
I'm going out of my mind
Will leave me standing in
The rain with a letter and a prayer
Whispered on the wind

Come back to me
Come back to me
O baby please come back to me

Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, one of their more recent, is blinding.
Love Letter I like, but don't consider that one of the better albums, nothing close to the majesty of Murder Ballads.
Birthday Party are well worth checking out too.

Aside from The Boatman's Call, my favourite Cave and the Bad Seeds albums are the early ones like Tender Prey. I feel that his later ones like Murder Ballads are a bit inconsistent, though still good. I tend to go for Boatman's Call for the ballads (Into my Arms and Are You The One? are incredible) and then the earlier stuff for the more rocking type. The Mercy Seat from Tender Prey is one of the best songs by anyone ever.

Definitely check out The Birthday Party, especially their live 1981-82 album. Nothing like No More Shall We Part. It's ferocious, primal music but amazing.

  • only discovered this band about a week ago, heard a song on the radio and it was absolutely epic, reminded me of the doors, must pick up an album this week

I am a little heartbroken because they're coming back to Vancouver, but have booked the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, whihc is the worst sounding theatre in the history of music. The past three times I went I vowed to never see a show there again... but people kept booking it, so then I'd go again thinking maybe this time it will sound okay, and no, the sound is so bad the show is completely ruined, so I promise "never again"... until the next awesome artist who in can't resist plays there. Well, I am sticking to my guns from now on. No more ruined shows at the QE for me. Just a total waste of money to see anyone there. So I am missing Nick Cage because of it. :frowning: Pisses me off. It was such a great show last time he came to town (and played the Orpheum).

That is weird there is no Europe at this point.

I do like the new album but don't love it. There are about 4 songs I love and then rest are just okay. I usually skip to Skeleton Tree (last song) first though. Love it. I don't know that there any Nick Cave albums where I love or like every song though. Such a huge talent though. His soundtracks are really good.

That would be tough to avoid an artist just based on the venue. It must sound terrible. Maybe there is a good section that has decent sound.

Unfortunately not. It's even horrible when you're sitting right next to or right behind the sound booth, so I'm sorry to say that it doesn't sound good anywhere. It's so that you can't hear the lyrics half the time and all the instruments are muddled. So it's basically just noise that bears a resemblance to the music you wanted to hear. Can you imagine how that affects a crowd? Which in turn affects the artist, of course. Like bad concert dominos, haha. It is definitely better to not hear the music that way, lol. All a show at the QE does is make you feel disappointed and mad. :disappointed:
