    :(

my Ween friend we meet again - too bad it has to be under such sad circumstances.....what an amazing band - a sad day in the Canadian music scene. They were incredible live - ever get a chance to see them??? Its a good thing that there are a hundred other amazing bands in Canada these days....all in all still a great time to be a Canadian/music fan

Decent record..I found them to be average at best live. ..Im a machine was one of my faveorite records a year or so ago..great stuff indeed.

I'd rather have them stop if they weren't "feeling it" any more.

hey buddy :).. yeah it is a sad day i've seen them about 4 times live from the tiniest dingiest clubs in calgary to saddledome opening for NIN!.. the stuff they were playing last time i seen them sounded really good and I was pumped for their next album.. so yes it's unforunate.. there is a side project called MSTRKRFT.. but i heard its nowhere near as good :(

I actually met DFA a long time ago and this girl I know pulled a fast one on me right before I was gonna talk to them and told me they were from Montreal because she knew i'd probably mention that to them... so of course I did lol they told me they were Death from above not Death from arcade fires.. haha

i read that too. i was really looking forward to a new album. at least the bassist is going to be on the new qotsa album. he should bring something to the band that is really lacking since nick was fired.

saw them live. loved their record. the remix album is beyond atrocious. they sound like cocky pricks now.

    heres my live story.

picture it. redroom, vancouver, 2005. great venue. small venue. sunken dance floor, that holds maybe 150 people. take stairs to get to it. the floor is right in front of the band. so if you are standing on the sunken floor you are at chest height with the band. there are only two members of DFA1979 so the drums are off to the side and the guitarist in the center, but they are both equally close. they start playing, and i mean their shit is heavy. very. its packed in this place and it gets going pretty good. like if you werent holding your ground you would be at the back of the pit in seconds. people just going ape shit. lots of drunks. the masses would take over. survival of the fittest. so i have my girlfriend in the pattented boyfriend in a mosh pit hold. biceps flexing and her in the middle, my hand grabbing my other wrist. a perfect little safe cage for her to not get hurt and enjoy the show. anyways,we are in the middle of this shit. her thighs are up against the stage, nothing in front of us but the drummer. things are going fine, they are rocking, i mean really rocking, blood on our hands style rocking...heavy stuff, then out of nowhere this prick in the crowd wants to be in front of us. i give him the impression im not moving and he somehow doesnt get the clue and starts pushing us and giving to my girlfriend and somehow finding a weakness in the safehouse ive created, but nevertheless, going after nicole. the drummer sees this and, now no joking around or embelshing this, he reaches down and grabs this guy by the front of the shirt with a fist and tells him to cool the fuck out all the while still keeping time with his right hand and feet. the guy stopped, the crowd loved it and so did we. nobody gave us a problem after that. it was pretty cool that he still kept time in the song, cool and composed.

good riddens DFA1979, thanks for the memory a holes. you WISH you could have the longevity of the stones. MSTRKRFT sucks.

they didnt sound cocky to me... bands to grow apart. of course in a few years time the two might talk again and work on something new. look at the pixies. pink floyd. specials. madness. weezer..... this shit happens all the time.

    That's an awesome story!!!!!

I loved their album but I never got to see them live. I agree 100% with your sentiment about their attitudes. Ah well, that's rock and roll, right?

This really, really sucks. We saw them when they toured with NIN and thought they were amazing ... bought their album and played it ad nauseum. We were looking forward to what came next ... and this isn't it.

i saw them open for NIN back in November....thats 30 min of my life and some of my hearing that I would really like back
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

these guys are from my hometown and i've been witness to their rise (7 or so shows, a couple without the "1979") and subsequent fall...Jesse on more than one occaision has opened his mouth without really thinking and it's bugged me to no end...lest i bring up the article where he disses PJ (http://www.chartattack.com/DAMN/2006/01/0205.cfm) ...

but that aside, they were a great band and will sorely be missed...

I saw them on a friend's recommendation. Never have I been so dissapointed. People were going mental everywhere...to what...I don't know. All I could hear was a wall of noise. And not a good one.

meh I was fairly indifferent to these two mofos a couple of good songs, I just think it will be hillarious in 10yrs time when DFA1979 will be long forgotten and Pearl Jams music will still be relevant, getting air play and hopefully still making new music that people WANT to listen to.
Can not be arsed with life no more.
  • That's too bad, makes me wish I'd seen them when I had a chance. Oh, well.

On a related note, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the Heads Up EP, short of going to eBay?
