I was listening to the white album last night, and I reckoned I knew a cover of almost all the songs on there, so in a fit of boredom, I tried to put together the playlist at work:

Back in the USSR - Dead kennedys
Dear Prudence - Siouxsie & the Banshees
Glass Onion - Arif Mardin
Obla di obla da - Daniel O'Donnell/No DOubt
Wild Honey Pie - the pixies
Bungalow Bill - Young Blood???/Klaus Beyer???
while my guitar gently weeps - built to spill/white stripes
Happiness is a warm gun - The breeders/U2
Martha my dear - Slade
Blackbird - CSN/the waterboys/Dave grohl
piggies - Oingo Boingo
rocky Raccoon- crowded house/jack johnson
don't pass me by - FSK
why don't we do it in the road - velvet monkeys
I will - Jonathan Coulton
Julia - Bongwater

birthday - underground sunshine
yer blues - dirty mac(cheating a bit)
Mother Nature's Son - sheryl crow
Except Me and My Monkey" - soundgarden
sexy sadie - paul weller
helter skelter - stereophonics/motley crue/aerosmith/husker du
long long long - low
revolution - stp/grandaddy
Honey pie - Barbra Streisand
Savoy truffle - ella fitzgerald/they might be giants/strangulated beatoffs
cry baby cry - throwing muses
good night - carpenters

I've attempted to keep it "alternative" does anyone have any improvements, or any other albums that this can be done with?

    Dark side of the Moon
    Athens, Greece: 2006/09/30

"Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." Herman Melville : Moby Dick
  • I know dark side of the moon has been covered in it's entirity by Phish and dream theater, but I was looking for a list of cover versiosn that make up the entire album...

phish did a few......beatles, who, pink floyd, talking heads.......
  • This is not what I meant. Maybe a better description would be a playlist of covers by different artists which make up the entire album
  • The Beatles have to be the most covered bands ever... I can't think of any other complete albums that have been covered.

I understand your initial post but I would like to add that Les Claypool's Frog Brigade did a live cover of Pink Floyd's Animals in it's entirety.

Can you list them or make an album out of them? I was beginning to think it could only be done with Beatles albums

Petra Haden did a full acapella cover album of The Who Sell Out that is pretty cool.

I would think you could come up with some Dylan or Neil Young albums that fit this bill. I'll have to work on it...

  • I think the ramones(the album) can probably be done, and also the velvet undergorund and Nico, although European Son could be a problem.... Its a great way of finding a new perspective on an album you like.
