man... i'm so digging their latest album. i don't get tired of listening to it.

anybody own it?? i'd suggest you go listen to it soon... it's a great album. they are just one of those few and rare bands that no matter how long they've been playing, or how old and how many copies they release, their music keeps getting better and better. kinda like wilco...

    Is it "I am not afraid of you and I will kick your ass"?

    It is one of my favorite albums ever. I can't tire of it. The tracks I like the least are the first and the last, but still very enjoyable.
    ... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

    yeah, those super long songs like 9 or 10 minutes.... i personally like them as much as the others... but it's all good.

    you should listen to "I can hear the heart beating as one" it's just as good.

    I have meant to pick something else by them for a long time. I'll do that soon, thanks for the suggestion.

    Have you ever seen them live? I would have loved to see them at Lolla...

    no, i never have.... i missed them when they came down to austin. sucked! had to work. but the chick plays drums and vocals. sounds awesome.

    They are from NJ, right? I just moved to NYC, so I really hope I can catch them at some point soon.

    I'm pretty sure they're playing a small club show a day or 2 after their ACL Fest date so check it out. I'd kill to see that but it's on a week night, and I live in Houston. Anyway, I got into this band pretty hardcore back in the spring, and definitely my favorite 'discovery' this year. I have the latest one, but have not spent the time with it yet that I have their previous efforts. I HIGHLY recommend giving some of their 90s stuff a try. These are the albums I have from them, in descending order starting with my fave...

    I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One (a masterpiece, their best IMO)
    And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
    Painful
    Electro-Pura
    May I Sing With Me
    Summer Sun

    Also, there's a greatest hits collection they put out in '05 that gives a nice overview.

    i only have their 'best of' double disc and i love it. those longer jams they have are my favorites.

    Just needed to add that Ira's solo in 'Pablo & Andrea' might just be my favorite all-time guitar solo... and Georgia's voice is stunning.

    sweet.... i didn't know they had all those albums... i'm gonna go out and buy the one's i don't have this weekend.

    i'll see if they'll be playing any shows.... they might play at stubb's... which usually every band plays there when they come to austin for acl or sxsw

    I know I am late to the Yo La Tengo party but just heard these guys for the first time after hearing an interview with Ira on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. I really like Today is the Day and the Electro-Pura album but haven't heard much else. Any other suggestions on where to start? I know there are suggestions in this thread but wasn't sure if the 7 years since the last post changed any opinions of these albums or if time was kind to any that weren't mentioned.

    my choices would be

    and then nothing...
    i am not afraid of you...

    still haven't picked up the new record, which is a shame.

    Grown to love Yo La Tengo over the last few years. To me Painful, I Can Feel.., and Electr-o-pura are all top tier.  Tom Courtenay is probably my favorite song by them.
