I've been on a BIG Mark Lanegan trip lately. Love the simplicity and emphasis on voice. Check out Bubble gum or Whiskey for the Holy Ghost. He is the forgotten vocalist of grunge. His Screaming Trees and QOTSA stuff is pretty solid also.

Elliot Smith is one hell of a songwriter, both lyricly and on the guitar. He has 6 albums of solo stuff he recorded before he killed himself. The only mainstream attention he got was a couple of songs on the Good Will Hunting soundtrack, one of which was nominated for an Oscar because it was tied to the movie, of couse he was against Celine Puke and her Titanic shite.

Anyone who wants to discover him should check out any one of his albums. Here is a link to the Oscar performance
