David Baker/Early Mercury Rev

The critics tend to say Mercury Rev were a bit crap until David Baker left; music critics are earless buffoons. David Baker-era Mercury Rev was a psychedelic phenomenon bar none. Is anyone a fan of Baker's Rev, or of his solo work (Shady, "World")?

I have never gone earlier than See You on the Other Side. I find that and Deserters Songs pretty damn good.

    Earlier stuff a lot different?

Seriously different. Enjoyably fucked up. I have a untested theory that parts of Yield wouldn't have been conceived without Rev's album Boces.
