See the full two 1969 interviews and performances Jimi did with Cavett, and he seems depressed, and not stoned. He was living at Shokan House and suffering serious mafia pressure to stop jamming around with jazz musicians, and to get Noel Redding back in the band. The second of the two interviews is quite sad to watch, really. He'd been in the studio for a couple of days and was clearly exhausted trying to get his band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows together for this dodgy gig at Salvation, a mob-owned club in New York.
I read he played at the Grammys ceremony either this year or last, with a blonde mohican.
