Even though I hardly listen to hip hop, I will always have respect for Biggie. One of the greatest MC's ever. Ready to Die, one of the greatest hip hop records ever created.

Unreal rhymes. I love the pictures he painted with the rhymes. I am the whitest person around, yet he was able to convey to me, what life in the inner city was like. the stress of it all, the effects it plays on your family, your psyche, your being.

Things done changed. Warning. Juicy, Everyday Struggle.

Pretty powerful album, should be required listening by teachers in schools as a way to connect with students on what life in african american neghborhoods, or at least projects is like. Books and movies are great teaching tools, but somehow, I think using Biggie as a way to illustrate inner city desolation, rage, white flight, racism and racist drug laws and police.

I cringe at his mysogonistic lyrics, but otherwise he is up there in terms of greatest songwriters ever, reguardless of genre.

Juicy is probably my favourite song. Bar none.

Biggie was a masterful rapper. The content of his songs was often objectionable, as you mention, and while that doesn't usually bother me with hip-hop, the raging sexism of Biggie's lyrics kind of grates on me sometimes but fuck it, no one told a story like him. Juicy is truly a masterpiece.

Things Done Changed, Everyday Struggle, Unbelievable... all amazing songs.

    "It was all a dream..."
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

Same, always have been, but Biggie was brilliant. I like Tupac's music as a whole a lot more, and have been listening to him for 10 of my 20 years but Biggie's Juicy might just beat Keep Ya Head Up, Brenda's Got a Baby and Changes for me.

Hardly his fault. How does that prove he was overrated? Music, as in all art, should be judged on what is there, not on what is not there.

I didn't see what others saw in Ready to Die for SO long. Then it hit me. It's not just a couple of good songs.

Puffy is a fucking leech who pushed Biggie into making dumb shit all too often when he was alive and has raped his legacy heartlessly since his death but that doesn't change the raw talent.
