Why is Ringo Starr so ignored and maligned?

His legacy is set forever in that he was a member of the most important band in history, but as far as his celebrity and personal importance it seems like he is a nonentity.

Paul currently, and John and George when they were alive, we basically as close to royalty as one can get. They were more regal than the Queen frankly, and still are.

I am a beatles fanatic. Anything they created I have. Anything that is Beatles related that comes out, whether its Across the Universe or Love or Paul and George and Johns solo work, or whatever I own it and I love it.

I dont own any ringo related stuff though.

Why is Ringo so left out in all this? Do you think he himself wonders this? Why John Paul and George seem so loved and adored while he was never and will never be one of them. He could put out a Santana like comeback record and people still wouldnt like him like they like John Paul and George. I cant think of a solo record of his, no name pops up.

    He was only a drummer...:p

George was probably the most gifted and talented musician out of all the 4. He broaden their sound...

yeah but drummers can be integral parts of bands. Danny carey of tool or John Bonham, or Keith Moon are all examples of drummers at the top of their game.

He has received a lot of critical acclaim for his solo work. His work on Thomas the Tank Engine was nothing short of genius.

I would argue it was Paul.. he could play every instrument of each band member, piano, trumpets, etc, etc...

George Martin rates him as the best out of all the Beatles, and George Martin was a classically trained musician himself
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Yeh, and he never did quite cut it as Bond did he! How about a thread regarding the reasons why Pierce Brosnan is so maligned as 007!

Agreed but I wouldn't put Ringo in the same sentence as those guys.

As John said when he was told that Ringo wasn't one of the best drummers in the world "he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles".

Ringo's just an all around cool person and fine musician, I don't care if no one else thinks so. In my opinion, he was the only one in the band who actually cared and wasn't a complete smartass most of the time (listen to their Christmas albums...he's usually the only one genuinely wishing the audience a Happy Christmas, compared to the other 3, who are goofing off).
I saw his All Starr Band in 2006, and it was a whole lot of fun. Ringo rocks.

I don't think anyone argues with this. And I don't think Ringo is Maligned at all.

He just happened to be in a band with three of the most talented Rock and Roll Musicians ever. So of course they all got more acclaim.

I have his solo album "ringo" from the mid seventies and its quiet good. He had a few great singles in the mid seventies. Really like his work with the beatles. I prefer his work on I wanna be your man than Jagger and co.

some brillant drumming on Strawberry field and I want you she's so heavy

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ringo was on Thomas the Tank Engine, therefore:

    Ringo > Lennon > Harrison > McCartney
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

he wrote some of my favourite Beatles songs, and his voice is unmistakable -

    Those chug-along drums are legendary!
  • Cuz he is a wanker.

he was probably speculating on what Ringos "too much to do" entails exactly. Other than complaining into his computer about overwhelming fans.
