the only ones that come to mind are:

the white stripes opening up for sleater-kinney in late 2000. the show was definitely before white blood cells came out.

    and

the strokes opening up for the doves in early 2001. i think the strokes only had an ep out at the time. i don't even think is this it? came out for another 8-9 months.

The biggest ones that come to mind:

    1. Guns N' Roses opening for The Cult in Calgary- 1987 I think. Appetite For Destruction had barely just been released and nobody knew who the hell they were at the time. I remember we got there late and only caught the last couple songs of their set.

    2. Wilco opening for The Tragically Hip in 1997.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Aweful? Really. I did not get to see them but i have seen a lot of old clips from their shows and they always looked like it would have been a really fun show to see.

I would think Rage and ATDI would be a very cool show to see!

I saw the Deftones open up for White Zombie/Pantera before Adrenaline came out. That's pretty much my only claim to fame with opening bands.

Saw Jack Johnson open for Ben Harper three nights in a row in 2001, when he was selling Brushfire Fairytales on his own because he hadn't signed a record deal yet.

Also, saw Incubus open up for Korn when they were touring for Science. That was pretty cool too.

  • the only thing that's coming to mind right now is tesla opening for david lee roth back in '87. if i remember correctly, mechanical resonance had just come out and the only song they had on the radio was modern day cowboy.

ok, just checked wiki and it says mechanical resonance was released on dec 8, 1986. makes sense, because it was january of '87 when i saw the show.

  • I saw Soundgarden open for Guns & Roses.
  • I saw Cheryl Crow open for John Hiatt at the Stone Pony (in Jersey) and there were only about 10 people in the place and she was great. Just her and a piano.

Also saw Soundgarden and Blind Melon open for Neil Young.

I know there have got to be others, but my 4 kids have turned my brain (and memory) to mush.

It was a very good show to see, I was just not into ATDI at the time, all I remember is wishing their set would end. Looking back I wish I had of known what I was seeing, they had amazing energy, but a lot of screaming to go along with it, that much I will never forget.
