I just love how textured the music is. Its gorgeous.

her voice has got the whole ethal merman thing going, but its no different than a dylan, or jim james or uncle neil type voice once you get used to it. Its amazing in the fact that its so fractured and untrained in a way.

the harp playing is pretty amazing as well.

She is one of the most impressive lyricists I can think of as well. If Isaac Brock, James Mercer, Ben Gibbard, Sam Beam, and Conor Oberst are the kings of indie rock music and lyricism, she certainly is one of the queens.

I enjoy that album she release a couple of years back that got a lot of praise(was it "Y's"?). I haven't listened to her outside of that though.

I wish she did some more traditional 3-6 minute songs, I never find myself being drawn in by 9 minute long songs. She does have a great voice and her songs are very good, I just don't have the patience to listen to her that often.

I wish she would release a new album. Ys was amazing and the Ys street band ep was pretty good too.

i can't get past the voice, it makes me shudder just thinking about it. i can appreciate her storytelling & her musicianship, but those 8 minute harp epics just rub me up the wrong way.

I listen to a lot of unusual voices and have no problem normally, a voice is just another instrument and I'd hate it if all guitarists sounded like Segovia but I just can't stand Joanna's voice. I LOVE the melodies she sings with it and I love her lyrics and harp playing but when I listen to Ys, I just wish she has a voice that I could love too. It'd probably be one of my favourite albums.

    radiohead33,
do you know who cocorosie is? Since it seems we are the only ones who like her voice and the textures of her music, you should check out cocorosie. i think the term folk-hop is the way to describe their music.
