Anyone else psyched for Intimacy in 2 days?

I know this band doesnt get much love on this board. I dont know why.

They make great music. People probably hate them because they are hyped. But lets not forget its not like people alot of us like as well were and are hyped as well. Uncle Neil, Uncle Bruce, Pearl jam, dylan etc...

Bloc Party strengthens my sense of being an anglophile. This music defines for me British culture. The bad weather, the boarding schools, the entire culture.

People seem to stand back aghast and act in horror when anyone around here suggests the indie rock music scene is the best since the the days of grunge, but I have said it and will say it again

one of my favourite bands to come around in the last few years. took me a while to get into 'weekend' but probably ended being my fav album of 07, kele really wore his heart on his sleeve for that album.

i even really like flux, mercury still growing though.

    so what's intimacy?

I listen to a wide range of music and honestly put Silent Alarm as in my top ten favourites along with the likes of efforts from Bob Dylan, PJ, Jimi, Radiohead etc, i think its a fantastic album, so fresh and vibrant even after having listened to it constantly when i first got it.

The 2nd album was a bit of a let down, aside from a couple really good songs, i thought the rest was average at best, with some of it pretty poor.

The new song ive heard from them is truly awful in my opinion, it just sounds bad to me, there is no other word for it. The melody is very uninteresting, his voice sounds whiny and the way electronica is used makes it sound worse. I love electrionic music, and thought their use of it in Silent Alarm was spot on, but it just doesnt grab me with the new stuff. Ill get the album but i doubt they'll reproduce anything like they did on Silent Alarm. Like Eating Glass for example, what an opening track, the drumming is awesome, as it is throughout the album.

So, I thought the initial EP and Silent Alarm were just brilliant ... love at first listen.

Saw them at Coachella in 2005 and they were fucking fantastic!

Was a tad disappointed with a Weekend in the City ... but it was good, grew on me more and more as I listened ... and saw them live on that tour and they were again ... freakin' amazing live.

fast forward to this year and the release of the first tune off the new album ... Mercury ... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WYdyExUfIbI ... wasn't really feeling it ... (sampling Peter Gabriel, really?)

but, they came to the Fillmore a few weeks ago and I had to go, I love when bands play the Fillmore ... and .... well ... you guessed it, they KILLED live yet again ... I won't doubt these guys ever again ... they may become one of those bands where the albums are good, but seeing them live is where it's at (sound familiar?) ... but that's ok with me ...

    oh ...

a little trivia, met my girlfriend of 2 years at a bloc paryy / borken social scene show ... true story.

while weekend was indeed disappointing, hunting for witches & disappear here are both solid, solid tracks. i'm excited for this new one out of the hope there are maybe 5/10 that i'll enjoy, but knowing that it most likely won't match silent alarm.

I honestly think Kreuzberg is the only song on Weekend in the City that would have been worthy of being on their first album!! Just my opinion.

You've clearly not actually been to the UK recently. You get the best of a bad bunch.

Let me know what you think if Scouting for Girls or The Courteeners ever reach your shores.

The mainstream UK indie rock scene is an abortion.

bloc party was great when i saw them live. didnt care for weekend in the city when it first came out, but it definitely grew on me. makes me think of soup by blind melon in that the debut scored the band a lot of attention and the follow up really threw people off, but i think time will be pretty kind to it. that new single is awful though. i may wait to see what the verdict is before i spring for the album.

The new song truly is awful isnt it, im honestly not sure what they are trying to achieve with it. I know its personal opinion but i cant see how anyone could enjoy it, even diehard fans. There is just nothing interesting about it. I hate the drums, whereas with the first album has some of the best drum sequences ive heard! So dissapointing.

For the life of me, I just don't get this band. I've listened to their albums (not Intimacy) and I've seen them live but they do nothing for me.

And come on, Mercury is a shit song. Could have been good without the "M-M-M-M-Mercury's in retro grey" crap.

Agreed. They're a boring band jumping on the "80s dance music is cool!" bandwagon. They're obviously talented musicians, which makes it even more frustrating that they can't come up with a decent tune to save their lives. I've seen them 3 or 4 times at festivals after everyone raves about how great they are, and every time I'm astounded at how bland it all is. I've really tried to like them, but there's nothing that is even slightly appealing about them. That mercury song is an insult to dance music. Say a random phrase and make it a bit choppy? lame

Id disagree that they cant come up with a decent tune to save their lives, there's not a bad song on Silent Alarm in my opinion.
