anyone know of any good political metal bands?

I just got into Lamb of God and they seem to be or are said to be cream of the crop in terms of metal today.

So what are some political metal bands?

Lamb Of God isn't really the cream of the crop, but they seem to be really popular with the metalcore crowd. My picks for the best metal bands releasing stuff?

    Strapping Young Lad
    Behemoth
    Mastodon

and as for political themed metal, I am pretty sure that Rotting Christ and Dying Fetus are pretty politcally charged

  • Well, with "metal" being a pretty loose term, I think that RATM and SOAD are probably obvious choices. Beyond that, I would say that there are several Sepultura and Soulfly songs that are politically themed.

Seputura is the only band that I would consider metal of those choices....but I don't really classify metal by it's political charge, they are by no means political metal bands, but...Satyricon, Amon Amarth, Burzum, Cryptopsy, The Human Abstract, Celtic Frost, Ved Buens Ende, Opeth, In Flames, Megadeth, Shadow Gallery, and others...

those are pretty much the who's who of metal bands. Metal isn't really politically charged in it's lyrics. Although Dave Mustaine from Megadeth writes some great lyrics and music.

i'm pretty bored w/ metal nowadays. the new Lamb of God sucked, but the new Mastodon is good. actually the only metal band i really listen to is Converge, every record just blows my mind. Dillinger Escape Plan is good too. Clutch is amazing but i don't think of them as metal. i've seen Unearth three times and every time they get worse... well maybe not. maybe i'm just getting sick of metal.

Boston metal is good though. Converge, Isis, Milligram, Unearth, Seemless, Killswitch, Shadows Fall, Cave In, Scissorfight, Tree etc.

    Tool can't be metal.

    Why exactly?

because they sound nothing like it? I always figured that much was rather self-evident

Tool is in a category of their own. Just like rush. Whether you like them or not, I've heard no other band that sounds like tool.

Megadeth has always been political. Danzig (the man) is pretty political, but the band not so much, though I almost don't even consider a lot of his stuff 'metal'.

    metal political bands???... hard one
never heard of one with political lyrics although the´re some great metal bands...
Edguy... their lyrics are funny, simple
Dream Theater... progressive metal... no political issues

anyways, metal bands hardly speak about politics... as far as i can tell....

Well...its definitely debatable(in the minds of the fans) but i would have to side with Echoes on this because of the lack of simillarity to Prog-Metal bands like Opeth and Dream Theater.

Meatl is a very very wide label. For exmaple, most would consider Judas Priest 'metal' however, what makes them this? TOOL are at times far heavier, and far faster than Priest so why can one be metal while the other can't. I agree that TOOL are more ambiguous but I don't see how they 'sound nothing like' metal. They aren't hard rock, they aren't punk, they aren't indie.

Scissrfight crack me up - only heard a few of their songs, but you cant knock a band who write "New Hampshires alright for fighting" - I know nothing about New Hampshire, but that's always struck me as a crackin' song title! (And song)

Wouldn't like to meet them down a dark alley though.... That lad with the beard is huge!

i've seen Scissorfight 4 times live and have spoken to them a few times and those guys are the real deal!. they have a record called Mantrapping For Sport And Profit and a song called "Outmotherfucker The Man". you cannot tell me that is not awesome. unfortunately they don't tour much anymore, i was lucky to see them in Philly this past summer at the North Star. right in front.. i could feel the kick drum. so heavy. so good.
  • Anyone around here ever read the lyrics to the first song on the new Trivium record (Crusade)? That track, unless I am completely out there, is rather political
