Anyone seen this documentary?
I had heard of the Dandy Warhols before, but never the Brian Jonestown Massacre, who have in my estimation one of the coolest band names ever.
It was a bizaare documentary. Someone in the documentary suggested that the lead singer of Brian Jonestown was stuck in the 1960's, or that he was a person who should have been born in the 1960's, that he was born in the wrong time.
And I got that vibe. The lead singer walked around in clothes that remind be of what The Beatles wore during their trip to India to see the Maharishi. Then one of the members of the band, looked like Lennon in 1965-66 or so. The resemblance was uncanny.
One of the more disturbing scenes was a song about heroin being passe and silly. Yet they show the band singing along to this antidrug song, yet are typing their arms reading to inject themselves full of heroin.
Wierd bands. I tended to like the overall sound of the Brian Jonestown, and felt like they were more interesting than the dandies.
But the lead singer is strange to say the least

But, Dig is awesome. I thought it was very interesting to see how they've come along all this time.
Pick up Thank God For Mental Illness and Methadrone by BJM.
also the metallica movie is good as well.
unless you are a metallica fan, then probably not so much.
the dandys wrote that song with anton newcombe in mind.
yes anton is an interesting bird alright. a couple of years ago i had the pleasure/misfortune to see BJM live and it was one of the worst/best gigs i've ever been to. anton was a fucking mess but you couldn't tear yourself away. it was like watching a car wreck. but when they played the music it was brilliant. i came out a bigger fan than i was going in.
take a good look

As for the Dandies -- I love 'em. Just listening to Monkeyhouse and I finally like it. Back when it was released, I guess I had other expectations -- hoping it would be 13 Tales pt. 2, but it ended up sounding like something Love & Rockets never recorded. Just took me time to let it sink in and enjoy.
where can I find it?
