This is one of my favorite Dylan tunes. Its just beautiful. Its melancholy, and powerful, its just a stunning song. It expresses that longing that I feel right now.

  • Probably my favorite of his beat poet songs... that is to say the songs he used the same music for over and over again. No disrespect though, I get what he was doing with it. Love the song.
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

He uses the same music and vocal melody in a lot of his old songs. Talkin' ww3 blues and john birch paranoid blues are the same way.

At that point in his career I don't think the music was very important to him.. he was a beat poet. The words were what he focused on and what most people back then listened to him for. The music was just a medium to send his words through.

I have to say I'm glad he moved away from that, but I understand and respect what he was doing in 'ripping himself off'.

  • It wasn't about being a beat poet but just being a folk singer. Folk music is all about that, reusing melodies and music to tell a story.

I've seen Bob a few times, but haven't heard this one yet. I'd really like to hear this one live.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
