Wrong "Grey"... but yes, White Ladder is an amazing album, and his other albums are quite top notch as well.
If I could, think I would give in.
  • i would highly recommend the albums he released before white ladder (a century ends, flesh, etc), but white ladder and those that followed are awesome as well, especially a new day at midnight. the stuff prior to white ladder is more acoustic-based and has more of that "damien rice feel" that you mentioned. white ladder and those after use a lot more keyboards and electronic sounds underneath the instrumentation, which sounds great, but if you want that rootsy feel, go with a century ends.

I love david gray, but I think don't just check out white ladder although it's good, sell sell sell to me is hugely underrated and a century ends i'm loving as well. I think white ladder is more popish but maybe that's just me.

Yes, definitely worth checking out. Look at White Ladder, as mentioned above. Also check out his newest one, Life in Slow Motion.

And by the way, if anything, Damien Rice has a David Gray vibe. Gray's been doing this way longer, and he's not as boring as Rice.

Yo, the guy in Gomez sounds similar to David Gray... and the weird thing is... the guy in Gomez, has the last name of Gray as well, but I can't find anywhere that they're related.
If I could, think I would give in.
  • "say hello wave goodbye" is a very emotionally powerful song.

Standing at the door of the pink flamingo
    Crying in the rain
It was a kind of so so love,
And Im gonna make sure it doesnt happen again.

You and I had to be the standing joke of the year.
    You were a run around,
    A lost and found.
And not for me I feel.

Take your hands off me, please
I dont belong to you, you see.

Take a look in my face, for the last time.
I never knew you., you never knew me.
    Say hello, goodbye.

    Say hello and wave goodbye.

We tried to make it work, you in a cocktail skirt.
And me in a suit, and it just wasnt me.
Youre used to wearing less, and now your lifes a mess.
    So insecure you seem.

I put up with all the scenes,
    This is one scene,
Thats goin to be played my way

Take your hands off me, please
I dont belong to you, you see.

Take a look in my face, for the last time.
I never knew you., you never knew me.
    Say hello, goodbye.

    Say hello and wave goodbye.
    Say hello and wave goodbye.

    Under the deep red light,
I can see the make up slidding down.
Well hey little girl, you will will always make up
So take off that unbecoming frown.

As for me well, Ill find some one
Whos not going cheap in the sales.
A nice little house wife, wholl give me a steady life.
And not keep going off the rails.

Take your hands off me, please
I dont belong to you, you see.

Take a look in my face, for the last time.
I never knew you., you never knew me.
    Say hello, goodbye.

    Say hello and wave goodbye.
    Say hello and wave goodbye.
    Say hello and wave goodbye.
    Wave goodbye.
    Say hello and wave goodbye.
    Say hello, wave goodbye.
    Goodbye.
    Say goodbye.
    Say goodbye.

We were born before the wind.
    Who were we to understand.
We were born before the wind
    Say goodbye.

Through the rain, hail, sleet and snow,
    Say good bye.
    And Im trying, trying, trying
    To say goodbye.
    Say goodbye.
    Say goodbye.
    Say goodbye.

In the wind and the rain my darling.

    Say goodbye.

In the wind and the rain my darling...
I have faced it, A life wasted...

Take my hand, my child of love
    Come step inside my tears
    Swim the magic ocean,
I've been crying all these years
  • If you want to check out how he sounds live, go to the live music archive on archive.org.
he's cool with people recording and posting his concerts.
there are some decent ones up there.
  • Just saw on Amazon that White Ladder is being released 2-14-20. First time on vinyl. Can’t wait. Great album.

Saw a video for Babylon once and picked up a disc of his way back when, love it when it plays, never skip him,  but  almost never consciously hit play on his album....so great listen, does not suck, but not over 25 bands I would rather hear...but Babylon live is awesome
