Anyone know if this is true, is it a concept album, about the world situation and the issues surrounding it?

Certainly the cover suggests this is an explicitly political album

it is not a concept album ...
    nobody said it is ...
the cover design is just plain ...
and the songs are not political ...
even if they are called for god and country and united states ...

    what is zeitgeist?
This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.

maybe i missed something here. I thought the cover was a picture in red of the statue of liberty being submerged in water. The engineer of the record spoke on it as a explicit comment on post 9/11 fears and of course on global warming. Is that not the album cover?

Secondly, naming a record Zeitgeist is definitely going to get people like me thinking this is a concept album.

Zeitgeist means a sign of the times, a symbol of the times. For example, during the 60's, Charles Manson and Altamont became the Zeitgeist. The symbol of the 60's.

Presumably, Billy and friends wrote songs that addressed just that, ideas and issues that are important in our world right now, the iraq war, oil, the environment, the erosion of civil liberties, etc...

why dont you think its political?

I mean, Doomsday Clock, United States, For God and Country?

So you think those songs are about love and relationships?

    I highly doubt it

uhhhh, those do seem like political songs, especially for god and country!

yo are aware of metaphors, aren't you?
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

2 out of 12 songs doesn make the album political

tarantula - im real real as any ghost just because ...

orchid - Life is my weakness,Love is my soul, If nothing means no one,
    Can play all alone.

and the rest of the album is like that so ...
it is not political, it is not a concept album
it is just good rock & roll :)

  • Yep, sounds socio/political.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

i'm not arguing if it's a concept album or not or how many songs could be socio/political, i have no clue, i've only heard tarantula and based it off the lyrics you posted...and the cover art does make me think that, too
