Possibly the most brutally sad song I've ever heard:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHgBxUpUlAE

Possibly the best love song ever (unrequited in a way):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2QmQhYZEvQ

"Did I dream you dreamed about me?"

and a stunningly beautiful song about some really rather contentious content. It's certainly about kinds of unrequited love but seemingly familial/incestuous love :o nevertheless, the song is amazing and the final minute is some of my favourite music ever. The final line is heartbreaking.

"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

A few of them are more about jealousy than unrequited love I guess.

Jeff Buckley - Once I Was (Tim Buckley cover)

Amazing song written by Tim about leaving Jeff and Jeff's mom behind. Performed by Jeff at a tribute to Tim, which was also his first major performance. About unrequited love on so many levels it's crazy. Listen for the very end when the string on his guitar breaks and he finished a cappella. Chills everytime.
"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."

Maybe more of a breakup but the love is missing

No Ones, Gonna Love You - Band of horses
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

You should have read it the first time I tried to type it out; I used their last name as well and got lost before I managed to say who actually performed the song.

Bob Dylan's Time Out of Mind is the king of all heart broken albums..just the darkest, saddest lyrics EVER, damn i related to these words so well a few years back, glad i got over it......but if you are feeling low, listening to someone sings lyrics like this lets you know you ain't alone.....check out these songs/lyrics:

standing in the doorway ("don't know if i saw you if i would kiss you or kill you, probably doesn't matter to you anyhow")

trying to get to heaven ("you broke a heart that loved you, now you can seal up the book and not write anymore")

not dark yet ("she wrote me a letter, and she wrote it so kind, she put down in writing what was in her mind. i just don't see why i should even care, its not dark yet, but its getting there...i've been down on the bottom of a world full of lies, i ain't looking for nothing in anyone's eyes")

to make you feel my love ("i know you haven't made your mind up yet, but i would never do you wrong")
"I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young

    Coldplay-Shiver
"Stunned by my own reflection, It's looking back, sees me too clearly and I swore I'd never go there again, Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down, down, down"

When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"

I've been to alot of Pearl Jam shows; So fucking what.

    Sparklehorse - Most beautiful widow

    "Many years later
    The glassy month of december
I stood with my hands in my pockets
    Trying to avoid
    A shiny wedding portrait
Hanging on that old woman's wall
'cos I knew you'd be wearing a smile
That'd be too painful to look upon"
