Has an album or band defined you?

I remember awhile back MTV had a show on MTV about tattoos. Some lady had one of the smashing pumpkins logo and said she was going through a tough time and the music helped her through it.

Have you ever been that defined or indebted to a band or song?

I have always felt that "No code" By Pearl jam has always soothed me through some rough times. I know Ed didn't specifically write the songs for me, but as I listen to the album (even today) I just feel such a meaningful understanding with this album's lyrics in particular. I can relate to the other albums to, but No code just holds a special place in my heart.

It's edging a bit into hyperbole because I don't think I ever would have done anything to myself but if any album did, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel saved my life. Helped me through a VERY difficult time for me. More specifically, the very final line of the album stopped me from really hitting bottom. Anyone who knows the album will understand, I'm not going into details. Sadly I don't get the same comfort and joy from listening to it now, perhaps because I wore it out and moved on musically or I just moved on from the feelings that made it hit so hard in the first place. Either way, I'll always have a special place for that album. .
